Looks like Apple will follow suit by slashing $100 on every iPod Touch.
If the "tip" is right, we'll see $199 8G Touches by the end of the month.

AHHH!!! This makes me so mad. I don't know what to do...
I'm going to Colorado for a ski trip on Saturday for a week, and I had my mind set on buying an iPod Touch before then... I already put my 5G iPod up on eBay, so now i'm stuck with either not having an iPod for a week vacation with lots of plan and car rides, or spending $100 now that I could have saved if I waited a few weeks.
Lameee.

If that is true, then there is no stopping me from getting an iPhone!
Oh, I also didn't know that SDK was going to be announced on February 26th.

Rubbish. End of story - just rubbish.
If we are to be seeing anything cut it will be the 8gb model and then the 16gb model can get a $100 price cut but even that's pushing it and there is no way in hell they'll drop the price of the 32gb.

Incredibly fed up. 8gb isn't enough, but I don't have the money to get a 16gb, now I could've...

I agree that this is a load of rubbish. I don't understand why they would cut prices of all models right after the release of the 16gb iPhone and the 32gb iPod touch. Although, anything is possible....

I'll believe it when I see it. Don't forget that these rumor sites are (at most) 30-40% accurate with their "definite" rumors... Heck, iPhone was rumored for almost 2 years before it was released...

I just ordered the 8GB new version Touch today from Future Shop here in Canada, where it is on sale for $269. I went to their site expecting to pay the regular price of $319, so I was very pleased! I don't know if this is related to a price reduction from Apple, but it is quite a discount for the Touch.

Great news, indeed. If that happens, I will return my 16GB to Costco and either (1) buy a new 16GB and save $100, or (2) buy a new 32GB for the same amount of money I paid for the 16GB last month. It's a win-win siuation for me. :D
I received nearly $200 off my 32GB (reward certificates). I rather have it now than wait any longer.
BTW, I read that the 8GB would be discontinued, leaving the 16GB & 32GB.

i'm already hoping that it is true. a 8gb touch and nano for the same price might make some users instantly go from nano to touch though...so they might not discontinue it if its getting too much good revenue

Well, seeing as I grabbed a touch a few days ago, I'd be pretty miffed about a price drop if it came in just after the 32GB had been on the market for 30 days.
If they drop it within 30 days, then YAY, I get $100 back. If they wait until the 31st day, then I'll be pretty peeved at Apple.
I'd still love my iPod touch, but I'd wonder why 30 days cost me an extra $100.
This is why I REALLLLLLLLLLY doubt there's going to be a price drop within a month or two. Maybe in four months, but not in one. That would be asking for trouble. Apple doesn't need all the people who bought a newly-introduced 32Gb iPod touch calling them to complain about the ill-timed price drop.

i think that it said in the incoming months...which would make total sense, but for now it really doesn't and if it does happen to drop shame on apple for putting their ipod stuff so randomly throughout the month...i guess its ipod month too

I believe in a few moths time they will completely axe the 8GB model and place the 16GB in its place for $299, and than have the 32GB iPod touch for $399. This makes sense as Creative is selling a 32GB player for $350. The devices aren't the same, however I'm implying Apple must be making at least $200 off these, and they can afford to lower it. Remember, the Shuffle costs them $19 to make.

whoa the shuffles are made that cheap?!
and i would buy the 32 or 16 if they were 300 and 400 a piece instead of 400 and 500

Yes, it does... In materials and component costs, but then there's packaging, marketing, telephone support (paying workers), software support (cost of troubleshooting/repairs), RMA shipping costs for warranty repairs, etc. They have to pay factory workers to put the parts together, and they have to pay salespeople to sell them.
The unit might be $19 worth of parts and materials, but I'd be willing to bet it's fair to consider a $25 fee on top of that to cover all the expenses. The shuffle doesn't just go from raw materials to your pocket without some cost to Apple.
People who break it down into material cost always seem to miss this point.

I'm pretty sure they will phase out the 8GB model and drop the prices. They did that with the iPhone as well.

I'm still trying to decide whether to get one or not, so this just makes it harder :shake:
I just read the article and it mentioned that the iphone had a $200 dollar price drop after only being out for a few weeks, so the likely hood of a price drop doesn't seem so out of character for Apple at this point. I think a price drop this soon would have a very negative effect on Apple though because they set a trend that you shouldn't buy their products too soon because there might be a big price drop very soon. It would make sense for Apple to want to create more buzz for the Ipod touch when they also announce the sdk though, but the article was vague. First the article says in the next "couple of months", then they also say in the "next month or two", and then they say it would be announced with the release of the sdk.
And in the meantime I have an amazon.com $50 gift certificate that expired on feb. 26th. What to do what to do lol

That's the way it it's. Apple will not set a new trend. :) They release new products, they lower the price and a couple of weeks/months later they release new products again. You could wait forever. If you have a voucher I would use it.
