Folks,

I've been to the Apple store 3 times, most recently last night -- AmEx always in hand--, fondled the heck out of an iPhone, and yet, invariably, I arrive home empty-handed. You see, I popped for a Classic back in October (which is with me always), and now, I'm having a heck of a hard time trying to wrap my head around owning both.

This is not a "what should I do" type of posting. It's more like thinking aloud. Yes, I know I could sell the Classic, but call it a weird attachment or whatever, I'm just not ready to part with it. The music library comes in at about 13 gigs; only 12 gigs are free, mostly per TV, movies and podcasts. I can live with just the music and some photos on the iPhone, so that's not the problem. Indeed, I even purchased The iPhone Book a month or so ago, read it through, to be sure I comprehended nuances before making the purchase.

What mostly pulls me to the iPhone:
1) no longer missing calls, a standard/irritating problem currently with my Razr, despite vibration mode (I've already pinpointed an iPhone headphone adapter; I play the Classic either thru the built-in ipod adapter in the car radio, or use my Er-4P buds, depending mostly on whether the convertible top is up or down)
2) access to the Net, whenever and wherever, be it via cell or WiFi (dearly missed since I gave up my Treo 680, after a long line of Blackberries and other Treos)
3) Treo was too dang big to slide into a pocket, and cases made it even bulkier, so I didn't carry it faithfully which pretty much defeated my purposes in buying the thing; by contrast, I see the iPhone is as easy to carry as my Classic

I think of syncing both the iPhone and Classic, and "hassle" immediately invades my thinking (Vista Ultimate/32 bit-- no problems to date re ipod syncing; I know about the special iTunes setting so it will play nice with all devices). Likewise, now, I reach for the Classic without thought. Will I be confronted with stutter mode if an iPhone lands here? (as she walks toward the door >>> "um, iPhone! ... No, er, Classic ...")

Soooooooooooo, with all that said, one question: to those who own both an iPhone and iPod (whether Classic, Nano or what have you) --- on a day to day basis, how are you dealing with both devices?? Obvously, if I'm about to drive somewhere, it's the iPhone/buds/headphone adapter. But otherwise, which do you use when, and why?

I'd really appreciate some food for thought here! (Already with AT&T, so no switching concerns)

I have an iPhone 8GB because I upgrade my cell phone from a Sidekick II to the iPhone so it's the only one I have use have now. I use it mostly as a phone & the internet. The iPod section I use sometimes. I mostly like the fact that I can easily download from iTunes and listen to the songs as soon as the download completes. I like the sound quality and the fact that the album art looks good and can be used in portrait mode. When the song changes the album art changes also but in Coverflow it doesn't.

I have and use the iPod classic 160GB to hold my TV shows, movies & videos. I mostly use this one connected to the TV so having my music on it stopped me from listening to it when I wanted to and be able to watch movies or TV shows so I removed the music.

I have an iPod 5.5 video 80GB that I have my music library on and sync this iPod and have the games I purchased for it that won't play on the classic. I have a large library as well. So everything won't fit on one iPod.

This thread "what do people do with multiple ipods?" (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=180002) has some ideas for you as to what people with multiple iPods use them for. This could be helpful to you and give you some ideas to consider.

I have a 160GB Classic that I use in the car simply because it is easy to change songs and adjust the volume without looking at the screen.

I also NOW have 3 iPhones though I didn't plan on having three, they just started selling a 16GB and well, I had to have it. I have all 2760 of my purchased songs on the 16GB and still have 1 GB free.

On another 8GB I have videos only, it's just an iPod Touch now.

The other 8GB is for all my other music and it is activated with a second number.

I seriously love all the disk space!

I have an iPhone 8GB and iPod Video 80GB. I use my iPhone all the time and my iPod is just collecting dust on my desk. I just don't need 80GB of music/video every day. 8GB is totally fine for me for my every day needs. It is great just having one device. Plus I am doing things with my phone which I just gave up with previous phones, like Mail, Maps, Calenders. I use around 90% of the features on the iPhone and it is everything I was expecting. Apple has not let me down and have really turned the mobile phone market on its head with its approach to interface design. It is not perfect, but it is much better than any other phone out there right now. Most of its shortcomings can be fixed with firmware updates so I am a very happy iPhone user.

Just been looking at hexonxonx sig! 2 iPods and 3 iPhones?! Wish I had that kind of cash!

I have both and now since I have the 16 gig iphone I can basically put all my music on the iphone and a video or two plus some pics, but I still love my classic.

My iphone is my phone and I use it that way but its nice to have real internet and my music with me when I want to plug it into my car jack or im out somewhere and someone wants to hear a song, or the gym etc.

The classic is for my house I have it docked into the main AV receiver, its also for when I travel, on a plane, to my beach or ski house. Its what gets the heavy use. I agree with the one poster, iphone for light use, classic for heavy. When I am away skiing and we want to watch a few movies or party to some music its the classic I use, I dont want my phone hooked up and being used or touched by everyone, I want my phone on me taking calls when I need it.

With my classic I have every single movie, and song I ever owned on there and its great to have that access. Now if the Iphone were 160gig flash (some day lol) I may rethink having two devices, but for right now they are perfect and serve completely different purposes for me.

Well I only intended on having two iPhones. Both were 8Gb, one running 1.1.3, the other 1.1.2. I had to keep one of the phones at 1.1.2 so that it can pair up with Garmin Nuvi 680 GPS handsfree options. With the 1.1.3, something in the bluetooth firmware is keeping the GPS from holding a connection. I also just plain needed two different phone numbers.

It was three weeks ago last week that I bought the second iPhone so I couldn't exchange it when the 16GB came out, so I just bought a 16GB and am using the 1.1.3 8GB as an iPod Touch (or as a spare in case I break one of the others). I don't want to sell the extra phone either, I have enough music and videos to fill up each with different content.

Woot! Courtesy of hubby and Valentine's Day, I'm now a member of the multi club. Now, off to start hunting for a case, etc. THANK YOU to all who shared their thoughts!!

P.S. As soon as the first call came in, while I was listening to tunes with ear canals, I KNEW I had hit SERIOUS paydirt (grabbed a Shure adapter immediately, since no Monster adapter was available in the area)! I know ya ain't s'posed to "love" a material item, but hey ....

I have a G2 iPod 40GB for my main collection (well, part of it) and it's synced to my Mac. I find my iPhone has some music but I download video podcasts from NASA and elsewhere on a daily basis. They're short and great to have handy on my phone, which I sync to my Windows (work) machine.
