I was wondering if there was something where I can just hook up to my dock connector and it charges it or allows the ipod to run on it?

I have one that uses batteries(but you can always use rechargeable AAs) but both should work fine. You might want to figure out what is available.
But should be nice to go on a trip and let's say never have to plug it into a wall.(because if you have lots of batteries, you shouldn't have a problem)
so really it depends do you want to have extra battery and have to recharge it a lotor buy batteries for something that will charge for you. In which there is unlimited(kinda) use.
