WiFi not working only edge

The iphone has started only surfing the web when on edge. If you try to open a web page, check weather, or check mail with WiFi it just says failed to update. I've tried it on many wifi networks and still no luck. Anybody else had this problem or know how to resolve it? I've tried to reboot the phone several times. I haven't restored it yet but I wanted to make sure it could be fixed without restoring first.

This is probably a stupid question but did you look under the settings for wi-fi that says "ask to join networks"? That's the only thing I can think of for a simple explanation.

Yeah, I'm connected to wireless networks, joining isn't the problem, but when I try to load pages it doesn't seem to want to download anything using a wireless connection, only edge. I've checked the router and the phone is making a connection with the router and my laptop runs on wireless some I'm getting confused. It's also happening at any WiFi hotspot or location that I use not just my home network.
