I posted my 30GB iPod Video on eBay, so theres no turning back now.. i'm buying a Touch sometime next week before my trip to Colorado. My only problem is 32gb, or 16gb?

On my iTunes Library I currently have 16.07gb of music (not including 3 movies, 7 tv shows, and 6 podcasts). I definitely don't listen to all my music though (for example, I have a Hillary Duff album on there... haha). I could easily live with 16gb, but its always nice to have some extra room on your iPod. I'm planning on Jailbreaking my Touch though, so how many GB's do the Jailbreak Applications take up? Is it worth the extra $100 to get the 32...

What would you guys do in my situation?

Bigger is always better in my opinion - your collection is only going to expand.

As for the size of the jailbreak, the applications are mostly under 10MB a piece. That's unless you decide you really need a copy of Wikipedia on your iPod Touch :D Otherwise, you can put on quite a few apps...

Ummm, you can put a copy of Wiki on your ipod touch, meaning you can access it offline? If this isn't a joke and depending on how big of a file that may be, that alone will tip the scale for me and make me get an ipod touch. I'm currently debating it and I'm not even sure what size to get because I'm not actually a big music and video person so I don't need to have all my music with me or hours upon hours of video, but I definately want this to be the next great pda.

I can't count the times I've ran into something new and wanted to look it up while I was out and about. :p

It's a 2GB download - I'm not sure how well it works because I've never tried it. But you can read more about it over here - http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34728

EDIT - Here's an install video on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVOxu0OlO_g

Really if you can afford it, there is no reason to sell yourself short. its a $100 for double the capacity.

I LOVE my 32GB iPod. I have a library of just over 20GB of music, plus lots of video, photos, and other things. It all fits in the 32GB iPod touch (with one provision: I have to eliminate a all the duplicate songs, like "best of" albums when I already have the original, and that sort of thing).

It's nice to be able to treat an iPod touch like a full-on iPod. My whole library is there! No working out tricky playlists or manually loading specific songs. No micromanagement required (yet).

And yes, it's pricey, but as they said above it's like getting two 16GB iPod touches for an extra $100, and that's a pretty good value.

Plus, if you get the 32GB iPod touch, you're part of the ultra-cool 32GB iPod touch club. I'm told we meet on Saturdays in the old tree house on Maple Street! :D

If you dont use lossless audio or really high bit rate lossy formats you can make 16 work very easly. I cant really justify having 20 gigs of music sounds like having alot stuff you will never even listen to. I have about 250 songs that i listen to at 1.5 gig with all high bit rates and about 50 apple lossless files, 3 full legnth movies. 277 photos. That leaves me with about 10 gigs left. So i guess i would be the that have a hard time justifing the 100 for more space i would never use. Just my opinion though.
Goodluck with whatever decsion you make its an awesome device.

I can't answer any of the questions about jailbreaking, but I'd say that if you have the extra $100 to spend, get the 32 gig version. Since it doesn't change the form factor, or performance of iPod, there's no reason not to go with larger memory size.

Same, I'm 16. I had a job this summer, so I have the money for a 32GB, but... I dunno, I just feel $500 is a lot for an iPod. I know i'll love it and enjoy it very much, but I just feel kinda stupid throwing down $500 on an iPod...

see thats exactly what i DON'T want to do is spend $500 on a ipod. there are other things i could get for the price, oh say a laptop and i could use that to my advantage too.

but i really want a job soon...stupid places not hiring teens...
so yeah, i'm hoping that price cut thing is coming...haha

Wait a week. Re-furbs will be showing up on ebay soon. You can get the 32gb for the price of a new 16gb. Re-furbs can save you a lot of money and they are just as good as new.

I've heard that argument about not listening to ALL of my music and not needing it all the time, and I attempted to try to go with that. I sold my 80 Gig classic when I got an 8 gig Touch for X-mas. I immediately went and upgraded to a 16 as 8 was not nearly enough. My collection is 37 Gigs plus videos formatted at 192 kbps AACand some at 320 kbps AAC. So I created a new library in iTunes and formatted all the music down to 128 kbps AAC to shrink the library down to about 22 Gigs while keeping my original library intact. With almost 5500 songs I was still not able to get the whole collection on it and kept finding myself looking for some songs that I had to remove.

So I disagree, I have always made sure to have a higher capacity Ipod to fit my entire music collection because I find especially when I shuffle all, that I rediscover some of my music. So even though I dont listen to the entire collection every day, I love having the entire collection all the time on one device.

So I sold the 16 gig the day the 32 gig was released, now my entire library fits on my Ipod along with all my videos with almost 3 gigs to spare. So now I am upgrading some of my collection back to 192 kbps AAC with the extra space. I love this thing. The second they upgrade to 64 Gigs, Im in so I can go back to original library with the original quality with over 10 gigs left over, I wont be upgrading for awhile after that. I am extremely anal when it comes to this stuff as you can see.

So if you plan to keep just portions at a time never missing the songs you remove and not planning to grow the collection much, and you are really truly ok with that get the 16. If you are as ridiculous as I am :D and plan to keep this for years, want all your music on it, and plan to grow your collection, do the 32, you won't be questioning yourself for months on end if you should had gotten it like I had when I sold the 80 gig, and the hundred extra will had been worth the investment. Let us know what you decide.

I took my iPod off eBay. I'm gonna wait until after my trip to decide if I should get one or not. For the trip, i'll stick with my 30GB iPod. I don't want to rush into a decision that I won't be happy with in a few weeks, so I think its just best if I wait.

Ughhh, I just wish the iPhone worked with Verizon.. i'd get that in a second.

Yeah, I just lost mine, and I'm well into adulthood. My company closed my store, and I'm out on my butt. Nobody's hiring in my state. It's a pain. I can't wait for winter to end so I can get past the frickin' blizzards and look for work.

Good luck to you! You're young and strong. You can shovel snow or cut grass or something and earn an iPod touch 32GB!
