Quick question:

I have a new nano and just bought an auxiliary plug that goes from the headphone input on the ipod into an auxiliary plug on my car. It cost a whopping $1.99 and the sound is fine.

When I get out of the car, I turn the power off on the nano, however I leave it plugged in. My question is, is this draining power from either the nano or my car battery? In other words, the car is off without a key in it and the power on the nano is off - could it still be draining?

If there's anyone who can let me know that would be great. Just wondering if I should bother to unplug from the car aux when not in use.

Thanks.

No there is no danger of this draining your car or Nano's battery by leaving this plugged in -- just don't leave the Nano in plain sight!

Alternatively, you could use a Belkin Auto Kit that will not only charge the iPod, but will automatically pause when the key is turned off. The iPod will go to sleep. The Auto Kit has a gain control, as well. In my PT Cruiser, power to the cigarette lighter is disabled when the key is turned off. In my Stratus it was not, so I always had to unplug the power adapter. You can find refurbished Auto Kits for next to nothing on eBay.

In my PT Cruiser, power to the cigarette lighter is disabled when the key is turned off.I hate that about modern cars, but thought that all US brands still kept the DC on with the ignition off, guess not.

U mean the old cars all do this.

The new cars, with the plug specially marked for "electronics accessories" they stay on.

Leave in car - worry more about theft and the hot sun!
