Hi,
I've recently been asked to convert a pile of cassette tape audiobooks to digital format (PC) for use with a new iPod Classic. I've managed to sort out software to capture the "live" audio feed from the cassette deck to my PCs line in, and write the resulting file as an .m4a file. Quality is acceptable and the process is fairly smooth. However, once captured, I'd like to be able to crop out the lead in silence, and any additional silence at the end of the recording. Call me pedantic, but I'd prefer to neaten the process and just lose the "dead" space.
I've read through posts on here, and I understand you can set iTunes to specify the Start and End points of a track, without reducing the actual file size.
Is there any cheap/free/shareware software out there that will allow me to do this ? I've used Audacity to edit MP3s and WAVs, but I'm loath to rip these recordings to an "intermediate" format when I capture them initially in the correct format for my iPod !
Conversion will inevitably lead to some loss of quality, and as the source isn't brilliant to start with, I'd rather not have to add this "halfway" stage.
Thanks in advance
