This my the iPod Car adaptor I have.

http://www.superwarehouse.com/Belkin_Mobile_Power_Cord_for_iPod_with_Dock_Connec tor/F8V7067-APL/pw/452168

It plugs into the car lighter. I am assuming that is just for charging. But on the end part of the cord, it also has an extra slot.

Is that slot possibly the slot that I need to get an ADDITIONAL accessory in order to play it in my car? So basically all I have is an iPod charger?

You want one of these, a Belkin AutoKit (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=149006). Provides power to the iPod; takes the iPod signal out of the dock connector and runs it through a wee pre-amplifier whose gain can be easily set to match other volume levels on your stereo; the pre-amp feeds signal to a stereo mini jack that you can connect to an aux in or cassette adapter. (You'll need a cable to go from the Belkin to your stereo; won't be more than a few bucks.)
