View Full Version : Constructing a car mount

I am thinking that it would be so nice to have a mount in my car for my new mini, so I could snap it onto a holder and it would be right at my reach.

Looking at the new Apple-made armband for the mini which I just bought, it looks like you could pretty easily deconstruct it, remove the black band and perhaps even the metal piece that the band slips up and through.

This mount could be the basis for a car mount -- perhaps I could stick it directly to the dashboard, or even better, have some kind of "stalk" that I could connect to the back of the mount, and then liquid-nails to my dash, so the mini would be "floating" a few inches off of the dash, right in my reach next to my steering wheel.

Any suggestions? Perhaps a company will come out with something similar.

Awesome, I hope it works out! I can definitely wait, so if this is 3 to 6 months away I will be all over it. :)

There is a post and pictures with it of a guy who modified his car for his iPod. He actually mounted an iPod wired remote in his dash. Sorry, don't remember where it is.

i did this with my 2nd gen ipod... mounted it in the center armrest, wired a remote into an empty switch location right next to the gear shift.

it was pretty sweet.

You know what I did with mine, is I have a cell phone mount on my car. It's mounted right next to my H/U. I just use the belt clip and clip it on there while I am driving. It looks and works really nice if you already have a cell phone mount.

Detailed pics of my install are in the "car" thread for big iPods:

I'm think about taking the elastic off the armband too, but instead of mounting it to the dash, I'm going to try to attach it to the end of the ipod cassette adaptor so that it holds the ipod directly in front of the stereo only when the cassette is inserted. When you take the cassette out, the ipod mount comes off with it.
I'll let y'all know how it works out.

Cheers!

I have my mini mounted right here:

I just use the belt clip and clip it on there. If I need to change anything...I just use the remote.

I just used the belt clip with a piece of velcro on it and my dash. Works great. I've had it for several weeks and it never budges. The belt clip is now used as a car mount and belt clip. Plus all you spend is a few cents on velcro.
