is there a speaker on the itouch or do I have to
have the earbuds plugged in to hear anything???

I'm a newbie too screema, but there isn't a speaker which I was dissappointed with too. You have to use earphones or a docking station I think.

There actually is a 'speaker', however it amplifies things like keystrokes and new Safari pages only, and only if the setting is on. I don't think it would even be capable of anything else.

Actually, it's not a speaker - its just a piezo that does clicks and beeps - there's no dynamic range and you can't do anything with it.
