My Ipod Touch has just been recently scratched on the back and the front. The front does not scratch as easily as the back but none the less, it does scratch. Most of the scratches on the front are not noticeable when the device is turned on but two of them are. Those two scratches change the color and leave a very annoying multicolored line on your screen when the Ipod is on. Are scratches covered in the warranty? If not is there anyway to repair the scratches? I saw a video demonstrating on an Ipod shuffle that a banana can get rid of scratches on youtube, will it work on the Touch?
Thank you for reading and answering. Hopefully you will not experience the same thing as I did.

Of course the back scratches. No one claimed otherwise.

The front is glass. Glass has the same hardness as a steel nail. So you must have gone at it with something pretty hard to accomplish it.

Well i did not TRY to scratch it but the front did scratch. All i did was put it in my pocket, at first it seemed fine since after i took it out it was not scratched but a few days after that (meaning traveling with it in my pocket) I looked at it and it was scratched.

I found a few scratches on mine before i warrantied it cos of faulty wifi.

But it is glass... er... no, it doesn't have the hardness of a steel nail i am quite sure... otherwise you couldn't crack it by nailing it which you can... (Scientifically, did you know glass is a supercool liquid, not a solid - definately not harder than a nail, which is solid...)

Glass is far more durable than anything any other multimedia device is made of, but it does scratch on its surface... not very deep at all... and it is only notable for the fact that it refracts some light from your screen... hardly an issue unless you want a pristine ipod all the time (if so cover it, like i did!)

I recommend a thin plastic cover like those berkin have come out with. Clean with glass cleaner, preferably windex, and then cover it with plastic... that way you never have this issue, whether or not you believe it scratches at all... play it on the safe side!

Think of all the car windshields that have scratches on them, just from grit being slid across it under a wiper.

Small Grit is actually the biggest enemy of glass, its not the large objects you've seen tested in the youtube videos. I wish someone would do a scratch test with SAND..those videos are misleading into making people believe they are indestructible.

Depending on how the nail was created (hardened or not) it is probably harder than galss. According to Wikipedia, MOHS Hardness Scale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohs_scale_of_mineral_hardness), glass is 6-7 hardness where Iron is 4-5 and Hardened Steel is 7-8. Diamond is of course the hardest at 10. Window glass is around 5.5 and a steel file is 6.5 so you can see that there are lots of things than can and will scratch glass.

It's glass, not diamond. Is it less easily scratched than previous plastic models? Yes. Impossible to scratch? No. Buy an Invisible Shield or case or whatever, unless you want that worn, used look...

The very first thing I did after taking my new iPod touch out of the box was put protection films on the front and back. :)

saran wrap is your friend! I have no problem with my screen besides smudges -_-. Evil smudges.

Mine had a scratch but luckily the sleep/wake button got stuck last week so I sent my iPod Touch to Apple and they gave me a new one.

As for the banana thing, can you give us a link to the video?

I suggest you only do that with the back of your iPod Touch.

The banana method doesn't work at all, watch the youbue video to show it doesn't! Hope it helps...

LOL @ Skitsefrenik. Way to lighten the mood. :D

I suppose you could give one of those eyeglass lens repair kits a try, like one of those "as seen on TV" type things like Liquid Lens(?). Perhaps something like that would work.
