Hi i have a question on Ipod touch...I charge my Ipod on my computer and i leave it like 3 hours to get it full. After i use it like 5-6 hours later, the battery is already 10% or 20% of the battery. Is this is normal that the battery is 10% or 20% so fast? Cause on the ''apple'' website it says that the battery can go up to 24 hours. Is this is normal? and my Ipod is new i bought it 2 days ago.Help ! thanks. :) ;) :D

Actually, the iPod touch lasts 22 hours for audio, 5 hours for video, and Apple hasn't said anything official about wi-fi internet surfing time but tests have put it at about 3.5-4 hours. Keep in mind that Apple's battery life tests were setup using playlists. They didn't pick and choose which songs to play and the screen was off. For video, the screen backlight was at 50% and as with audio, they didn't mess around with anything (ie they didn't skip videos, fast forward, or rewind). The audio files were also encoded at 128kbps using iTunes AAC.

Now lets do some math :) The iPod touch is rated for 22 hours of audio playback. 20% of 22 hours is 4.4 hours. So yeah, that is about right. Keep using your iPod like that and you will see it last over the 22 hour mark. Ever since the 3G iPod, Apple seems to be very strict with their iPod battery playback times. Back in 2003 with the release of the 3G iPod, Apple said that it would last 8 hours on a single charge. Many people including myself were constantly getting about 5-6 hours and Apple faced multiple lawsuits. Now their battery life estimates are a little below what the unit can actually get. My 5G 50GB iPod is rated for 20 hours of audio playback yet I continually get about 22 hours. My 16GB iPod touch is rated at 22 hours of audio playback yet I normally get about 24 hours. I get about 20 hours if I surf the internet for 10 minutes while playing music then go back to just playing music.

So your iPod touch is completely normal.

It all depends what your using your ipod for and what setting you are using. Apples site says 22 hours for music and 5 hours for video. That is with no back light, no wifi on and other settings that drain the battery. Surfing the web with the safari browser doesnt last very long on the battery 2 or 3 hours max. In addition if you are just listening to music and you have the brightness low, no wifi, but, if you keep on fast forwarding tracks and skipping tracks that will drain the battery very quickly. Hope that helps. Thanks! I see my problem now.Cause I listen to music with wifi on, i go on internet , watch video clips on youtube(always) i will try to do them less to have more battery life. Thanks guys.

Some battery saving tips: try to keep your brightness the lowest possible, try to switch off the auto birghtness feature, switch off wifi, dont use any equalizer settings, Keep auto lock to 1 minute or lowest setting possible, I think sound check also drains the battery and yeah make more playlists for your music so you dont have to skip to next track as much. Turning your ipod off and on constantly drains more battery then just keeping it on and leaving it in sleep mode. Hope that helps.

1. Turn off the WiFi when you are not using it. Searching for a non-existant signal burns power.
2. Turn off (sleep mode) the screen when you are listening to music.
3. Don't shut the Touch down. Rebooting takes more power. I haven't turned mine off in weeks. I just put it in sleep mode when not in use. Even over night.

These 3 things (which I learned here) have really extended my battery length.

I charge it whenever possible.

Just FYI - if you search the forums, BlackWolf did a couple tests evaluating the battery life a month or so ago...

Screen is a huge power draw as is Wi-Fi...

I have one more question...Does watching videos on Ipod(WI FI Off) can waste the battery faster too?

Yes it will drain the battery faster than listening to music and also depends what brightness setting you have your ipod at.
