View Full Version : Poll : How many of you actually Jailbroke your iPod Touch

Title Explains itself.
The reason I am making a poll is because I was very happy with my 1.1 and 1.2 touch - it was really cool to me and added a lot of useful apps. But ever since then, my iPod crashes once in awhile and seems a bit slower / battery drains faster (yes SSH is off).
Ever since I restored it without the Jbreak - it's been working a lot faster / has more battery life.

I jailbroke 1.1.3 and my battery life seems to be the same. I really like how my touch looks with all the apps installed even though they hardly get used. Google Maps seems to be down since the corrupt download which is a bummer since the hybrid function makes it look totally kick ###.

I had it Jailbroken on 1.1.2. I started hearing and reading about a few too many problems with Jailbreak programs corrupted, and some brickingthat made me nervous enough to revert back, and buy the applications. Since then, speed is the same, but I have noticed beter battery life.

Had mine jailbroken on 1.1.2 for a couple of weeks and then restored when the 1.1.3 firmware was released as I wanted to install the software upgrade. Now impatiently waiting for devs to giddyup on the SDK in February. Never noticed any kind of real hit in performance while it was jailbroken, but then again it was only a couple of weeks.

I never jailbroke mine. I never needed any of those apps, all though fun, didn't really need them. I did purchase the apps though, since I didn't mind paying. Although a NES app was a great idea. And it's cool users can still get the apps, even though they worked around it!

I did jailbreak mine until 1.1.3 came out. Then I decided to fly straight and upgrade to 1.1.3 and buy the apps that I jailbroke it for in the first place. Even though I don't agree with Apple charging $20 for the apps, I felt it was the right thing to do, and I find the performance to be much better.

Jailbroken since day one with every firmware update. Never had performance issues or battery life loss.

I did jailbreak for awhile, but the novelty didn't last long. The only thing I was really after were mail/maps and notes. So I'm all legit now.
Battery life does seem to be a little better now, but that may just be an illusion ;)

I'm there with bobbit - I've jailbroken every firmware and haven't had any performance, stability or battery issues. The additional applications are worth it for me. I'm not one of these nuts with 10 pages of apps - just 2 - but it makes the iPod Touch into more of a mini-computer than a portable music player...

There needs to be an additional voting option: tried to Jailbreak, but failed.

I picked up my iPod touch the day after this year's Stevenote (which came with 1.1.1 out of the box... must have been on the shelves a while), and immediately upgraded the firmware to 1.1.3 with the January Update pack. Later, I tried to restore back to 1.1.1 in order to run through the Jailbreaking process, but I get an "Unknown Error (1)" code every time. I've tried nearly every variant of the restore process mentioned in the forums here, at tuaw.com, and iPodTouchFans.com and nothing worked.

Mostly I wanted to Jailbreak for Stumbler, ApolloIM, and few games, but at this point the basic Wi-Fi settings screen, Meebo, and web based games will have to do until the SDK comes out... which is fine by me. :)

I did with 1.1.1 and then when 1.1.3 came along I restored and bought the apps for $20. I never noticed any performance or battery hits either. The novelty of jailbreaking for me wasn't a big deal. I just wanted the email, Safari apps. My Treo 755p handles all the other stuff and until AT&T's network doesn't suck as much, I'll stick with both the Touch and the 755p (plus I don't kill my phone's battery watching movies on the plane)

No, just because I dont want to void warranty or risk ruining something I paid so much for. I would like to try it though.

What is this SDK that has been mentioned?

SDK=Software Developer's Kit

Basically, it's a set of frameworks to allow developers to more easily create applications specifically designed for the iPhone & iPod Touch. Once this is released, we should have a better idea of Apple's sales model (e.g., via iTunes most likely) and the types of applications that can be developed (might be limitations on what can be done using the official Apple tools).

I've been wondering whether or not I should jailbreak my 1.1.3 (w/ additional apps). A co-worker showed me his jailbroken iPod touch with cool apps such as terminal and SSH. Being a Linux user, I'd love to be able to ssh into my Linux desktop from my iPod touch. OTOH, I don't want to have to take extra steps when 1.1.4 comes out.

oh yes, i know how you feel. im still on 1.1.1 firmware but i can tell you that once your iPod Touch has been jailbroken firmware updates are not as a big of deal. the only reason why i would update mine would be for system stability, but no problems yet with the old firmware.

I broke my touch out of jail about a week after i got it. It's been on the lam ever since.
