Yeah, way better than the Zune IMO. And eBay is your best bet, prob. won't get much in a resale though, you should hold on to it as another player, perhaps for your car or just for home, but you'd be crazy not to get a ipod touch!

Do yourself a favor, use the search function on the forum, theres currently about 5 threads having to do with "is the touch worth it???"

Also, maybe you should read some reviews online, you're likely to encounter a much more pro-apple biased opinion here as opposed to online reviewers.

What's so bad about the Zune? I'm thinking of selling my 60GB video for the new Zune 80.

GameStop doesn't take Zune trade-ins. I have a 30GB Halo 3 Zune and they wouldn't accept it (not that I would trade that in though). eBay or Amazon are your best bets for selling your Zune. That or you could take up an add in your local newspaper. Either way expect to get about $75-$80 for a Zune as woot.com has had refurbished 30GB units for less than $100 on more than one occasion.

I think the main issues with the Zune are people who upgraded their 30GB model to the new firmware. I upgraded my Zune to the new software and it has run fine for the most part. I had a syncing issue once where my Zune software spent 4 hours syncing 16GB of content and then my Zune showed it didn't have anything. I then plugged it back into my computer and the Zune was empty. So I had to re-sync all that crap over again. That and I had it turn off on me for no apparent reason. I think the 80GB Zunes are more stable as they have the new hardware (which is more powerful as it can natively handle mpeg-4 videos) and I am sure the new firmware was built with the 80GB Zune in mind first, then the 30GB Zune as an afterthought.

I have owned both the Zune 30gb and the Ipod Classic 30gb but now I own the 8gb Ipod touch and let me tell you it is by far the best one yet. Now some people in these forums are all about have tons of songs and videos on their device and just letting them sit there for years to come. I personally don't do that all I need is about 1,000 songs a few videos, some pics and I'm good to go. The fact that you can access the web and edit your calendar/contacts right there on the device is worth it to me. The new Zune video is pretty cool but it is so small I don't see my watching a movie on a screen that small to be honest. I have found that Marketplace for the Zune is a lot more user friendly than Itunes for the Ipod. I would say go with the Ipod touch 8gb or even the 16gb and you will not be sorry. Once you start playing around with it and figuring out it can do so much stuff you will be glad you didn't go with the Zune. The Zune says it offers wifi but that is a bunch of crap, who wants to sit there and transfer songs to your buddy sitting right beside you. Wifi should mean you can get on the internet and surf the web not just transfer a song to someone with a Zune standing right beside you.

Download and install the Zune software from here: http://tinyurl.com/2yn9wa

Test it, use it and prepare your library using the Collection

Clean and fix your tags using: www.mp3tag.de/en or any id3 tag editor

and Remember
For non-compilations albums, the "Artist" and "Album Artist" (or BAND) tag must be the same for each song inside the album

For compilations albums (ie: Soundtracks), the album name should be used as the "Album Artist" (or BAND) tag for each song inside the album

edit: wrong quote.

It depends on what you want you cannot compare the Zune to the Touch. The touch is a pda w/ ipod function the zune is just a pmp.

Hey matt i heard that the new 80's have alot of bugs.
All you have to do is take a look at the Zune forums to see that hey have allot in common with bugs that people have with iPods. People over there are finding the Zune won't sync sometimes, frozen Zunes, you know all the same problems. MS Zune isn't problem free at all.

There was one post that made me laugh. The guy was so upset with the Zune that he was going to sell it and get a Classic. He was so tired of all the bugs.

Actually, the iPod touch is more like an iPod with some PDA functions, not many though. A true PDA would have some type of word document editing program, a spreadsheet program, bluetooth connectivity, and a couple other things. The iPod touch's main focus is still music and video playback but it has the ability to browse the web, view a calendar, and do other various things like that. The PDA features of an iPod touch still pale in comparison to a 3 year old pocket PC.

But you are right, you simply can't readily compare the two as they are meant for two different groups. The Zune/iPod classic is meant for people who want to carry around everything in their library while the iPod touch is for people who want to carry around a large amount of media (1500 songs relates to about 4 days of pure audio listening) but also want to surf the internet using wi-fi.

Sync issues are cause by wrongly tagged Collections, looped or bent cables, DRM in the metadata, etc.

Well, at least our Zune doesn't do things like this one:

http://gizmodo.com/351676/ipod-classic-firmware-update-may-damage-headphones

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/ipod-classic-firmware-1-1-warning-287401/
Some iPod classic owners who installed the recently released 1.1 firmware are reporting that their iPods are sending electrical pulses through the headphone jack and docking port, even when the units are turned off. The pulses, estimated to be 500mv worth of DC, may be enough to damage equipment that is plugged in.

Elsewhere, audiophiles on the Head-Fi forums are complaining that the update brought "hiss" and "static" to the classic, and others say that the firmware froze their iPods or restored them inadvertently. (Note: We have not noticed any irregularities like this after extended use with our own updated classic.)

So what's the reason behind all this? Is El Jobso trying to control our minds with hypnotic pulses again? Make us switch to the iPhone? Per usual, Apple does not have any response to the matter. If a new firmware update comes soon, well, that's probably as good a confirmation as we're ever gonna get.

and our posts asking for solutions on http://forums.zune.net doesnt get deleted.

Do we really want to do this? I can supply links to Zune problems that my iPod touch doesn't do. Keep in mind this is the iPod touch section of the forums, not the iPod classic forums. I have also yet to see a post asking for a solution get deleted here on iLounge. People posting in Apple's iPod forums will get deleted if there is a sticky or the solution has already been posted 38745 times.

We all know you love your Zune and don't have any issues with it. I have a 30GB Zune and like it although the new firmware has caused some headaches. Different users have different problems. No need to stick up for the Zune in these iPod related forums. I might as well go to the Zune forums and start posting how great my iPod touch is.

Surfnc25 had some of the best points that I share.

I just sold my Zune 30 for the touch. In all honesty, I really liked my Zune. The updated interface was really slick and you really can't beat the sceen size. If it was between the iPod classic and zune, I'd pick the zune.

With the touch though, I fell in love! It's an unfair comparison between the two. I actually sold off my Zune (ebay for about $130, but I got it off of Woot! For $99). I also sold my nokia 770 and palm tungsten t3, and you know what? The touch does all of the above and does them really well. The thing about the touch is that you won't just be using it for music/video. I am constantly on it with safari, gmail and youtube. Of course I spend all day listening to it at work.

One of the biggest gripes I had about the zune 30 was that mp4's had to be converted. Every podcast had to be converted so that was so annoying. I'm now in bliss (typing on it as we speak).

It really boils down to your library size. I found that I was always skipping stuff on my zune because I really didn't like a lot in my collection. Space will be the biggest factor in your decision.

I would take a trip down to bestbuy or that Apple store and genuinely play with one for a while. I spent an hour with one and here I am today. This thing is such a marvel! :)

Thread title: I currently have a Zune.......
I do. in fact, two Zunes (30 & 80)

firmware != software. Period.
The build from the ground software is the thing causing problems. Software goes into your computer (that can be messed up, too). Firmware goes into your DAP.

yeah, you can go to Zune related forums since in fact do you own a ZUNE. Here, I post on Zune related thread and dont move beyond this thread.

Mp4s are compatible with Zune Gen. 2 that consist in Zune 80 4/8
