please bear with me with my multiple posts. i am just trying to get the best out of my limited budget :D
this time my question is, which ipod is truly meant for me?
i mean i love the itouch but after researching the ipod classic ,it seems to compete with my choice of the itouch. i've read multiple reviews about how average the sound quality of the itouch is for a media player and the decent quality of videos.
but then what i have read about the ipod classic is that it has great sound and video quality. also has 80 gigs. its also very compact for me so when i workout i won't notice it as much.
but the thing that is keeping me on the fence is that, im a on the go person and i would love to have a device that allows me to check my e-mail, instant message, play fun classic games, get maps, ect. i also dig the huge screen of the itouch. like i said im a on the go person, so i love watching vids everywhere, school, library, whatever.
but to me i dont need a whole lot of space because i have about 1gig of music(ridiculous i know;) ) and a whole lot of movies that i can shrink down to fit the 8gig.
what i am thinking of doing, is taking advantage of bestbuy's return policy and see how the itouch is to my everyday things and then i can really see if the itouch is for me. if it isn't that i can just return it within 2 weeks:D and then do vise versa with the ipod classic.
^^please do tell me if there is a flaw in my plan because i dont want to look like a idiot there:D

I suggest that you search the forums as this topic has been discussed ad nauseum. Believe me, there must be about 3245 posts a day on the subject of "is the iPod touch right for me" or "iPod touch vs iPod classic" and so on. I am not trying to be rude so please don't take it like that, I am simply stating that this topic has been covered and you can get many instant results by searching.

It sounds to me that you answered your own question in paragaph 5. If you have access to WIFI the touch does all that. It is truely a neat product. You will enjoy it. Just remember it is a multi media player and not a pocket PC or Treo etc. It is an Ipod with a cool interface which is pretty amazing. Buy a pair of $30+ ear pods and enjoy the tunes, movies, email, maps, games and surf the web all while drinking your favorite coffee at your local coffee house (with Wifi). If you can afford it get the 16 gig-- videos eat up space + you will increase your music library at some time.

If you want multi-purpose for email and web and have access to wi-fi spots, you can't go wrong. I think the picture, video and sound quality are great. Apple should have named it iTouch anyway.
Good luck with your decision.

I have a Classic and a Touch and honestly cannot tell the difference in sound quality- I use 256AAC files and Grado headphones. My Classic stays at home on the sounddock but the Touch goes everywhere with me - it truly is an awesome piece of kit. Whichever purchase you make you will not regret.

Is "your" an abbreviation for "you're"?

every review stating that the classic has better sound quality than the touch is just lying. the classic has horrible sound, every idiot can hear that and I saw tests that prooved it. considering that the touches sound quality isn't that good either ... well, let's just say I returned my classic because of the bad sound quality.
if you don't need more space than the touch offers I'd definetly go for the touch. it has better sound quality and the interface and navigation is just unbeatable.

We don't have to live with it. I don't see iPod classic owners going around calling their iPods the iClassic or 3G iPod nano owners going around saying iNano. The iPod touch is just that, the iPod touch. People can call it whatever they want but as long as they call it the iTouch, someone will be there to correct them.

so by your standards what will make an official abbreviation. If everyone decides to use it? or if apple releases it as so? i just find it funny that most people on these boards don't like it being called an itouch, but yet there are so many people who do call it that.

also go to google.com and type in ITOUCH.
Look at the first result it comes up with. I would consider calling it an itouch to be ok!!

Yeah, and look what else comes up -
iTouch Home Automation Products
iTouch "touch-on-tube" surface wave touch technology
Logitech iTouch keyboard
....and the #1 reason I refuse to call it an iTouch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTneO6UgRuM
If that doesn't do it, nothing will...

I don't care what people call it, I just don't like iTouch.
Hey, is that an iTouch?
No, it is my iNano which is just as good as an iClassic but it can't go on the internet like the iTouch.
Oh, I was talking about your home defense system.
That... Oh yeah, that is iTouch.
I know that this is an iPod/iTunes centric website so it is safe to assume that everyone saying iTouch is talking about the iPod touch. Like I said, we don't go around saying iNano, iClassic, i5G, i5.5G, iThis, iThat. Apple gave it the name iPod touch and I think people should call it that. I do think that touch is an appropriate abbreviation just like people call the iPod classic the classic, the 5.5G iPod is call their 5.5G, the 5G iPod is called the 5G, 2G iPod nano the nano, and so on. It is just that iTouch is not the iPod touch, it is a name that other companies give to their products.
Wow, this got way off topic. The OP already knows that it is called the iPod touch as they said that in one of their other threads so yeah, I don't see a point in going back and forth as there are just some people who will always call it an iTouch. That is fine but I will always correct them.
