it will take me a few months for my job to supply me the $$$ so i still got a while till i can actually have an itouch of my own.

one of my worries it that, i dont like to be outdated. i got ride of my mini because the nano came out. sold the nano because the second generation came out. you guys get my point. i dont like to be out dated:mad:

what i am getting to is, what do you guys/gals predict will in the future release of the second generation itouch?

i dont give too much about the size because too me the size of the itouch is almost perfect for me. I can live with the 8 or 16 gigs of memory, i think the apps like mail, maps ect are good enough. plus i plan on installing jailbreak. All i really need is internet, music and vids.

do you guys/gals think i am set to purchasing a pricey piece of goodness and settle for it or should i just wait until a new itouch is released and see if i like it?

also do you think apps will continue to be released on the first generation if a second itouch comes out?

please help me out, thanks for the replys and your time in advance;)

your fighting a never ending battle lol, even if you wait till the 2nd generation youll soon be outdated in time

i don't think the 2nd generation will come till around fall/christmas, it's really up to you if you can wait that long

even still with that generation i don't see to much changing, maybe longer battery life, increased storage, etc.

i just purchased the 8gb myself a couple days ago and more than pleased and i think i will be for awhile now, i would say just go ahead and buy it now

What iPod do you have right now?

Also Apple has planned obsolescence on their iPods.

"iPods have been criticized for their short life-span, fragile hard drives, and planned obsolescence.[48][49] A 2005 survey conducted on the MacInTouch website found that the iPod had an average failure rate of 13.7%. It concluded that some models were more durable than others.[50] In particular, failure rates for iPods employing hard drives was usually above 20% while those with flash memory had a failure rate below 10%, indicating poor hard drive durability. In late 2005, many users complained that the surface of the first generation iPod nano can become scratched easily, rendering the screen unusable.[51][52] A class action lawsuit was also filed.[53] Apple initially considered the issue a minor defect, but later began shipping these iPods with protective sleeves."

I challenge anyone to point out a piece of electronics that doesn't these days. Everything, cell phones, televisions, computers are all practically outdated the minute you walk out the door with them. There's always something bigger, better, faster right around the corner. If you continue to second guess yourself instead of just buying what you want at the time you'll end up never buying anything.

I would go ahead and pull the trigger and get it. I wouldn't be so sure that Apple is going to be real fast upgrading hardware for the iPod touch when there is so much room for improvement on the software side that people are willing to pay for.

Well you will have a really hard time finding an iTouch as those don't exist. There are such things as an iPod touch though. :)

As for being outdated, now is the time to purchase. Apple either releases a whole new generation iPod or updates an older generation iPod about once every year. They released the iPod touch in October (maybe September) of 2007. That means that Apple won't announce anything until around the same time in 2008. If you wait any longer then the amount of time where your iPod touch is top-of-the-line won't be long.

I imagine Apple won't really come out with a second generation iPod touch. Instead they will come out with an updated iPod touch that might have a larger capacity (if SSD memory prices decrease), a brighter screen, a faster processor, a couple exclusive apps, longer battery life, and so on. I don't see them coming out with a whole new OS as that would be time consuming and the iPhone/iPod touch already has a good OS. I think it will be the same as when Apple released the 5.5G iPod back in 2006. It had a new feature that wasn't available in the 5G firmware, a brighter screen, better battery playback time, etc.

Think about it for a little while then make your decision. The time to purchase on is dwindling away. You might as well wait until fall 2008 if you decide to get one later than March 2008. Just keep in mind that Apple always releases a new/updated generation iPod every year. This is about the same for all electronic though. TVs are replaced once a year with new models, computers get updated about once a month with some new feature/hardware, new cellphones come out about once every 0.5/1 year, new cars come out once a year, etc. Even Microsoft is adopting Apple's upgrading plans and released a new Zune one year after the first one launched. Not only that but they released a special edition 30GB Zune two months before coming out with the new generation model.

Might want to take a glance at this buyer's guide that breaks down the cycles for iPods & Macs based on historical data - http://guides.macrumors.com/Buyer's_Guide
