I bought a Week 45 a few weeks back, overall I'm happy with it, but a bit disapointed with the Contrast on the screen, it's decent but there is still abit of a washed out appearance, the blacks are more grey than anything else. I have no negative efffects, and mostly TV shows look ok, movies thou lack a bit of depth and color. I'm comparing it to my Cowon A2 and it just has so much better contrasting in the Blacks. I remeber when the Iphone came out the First Batches of them I saw at the Apple store had such a fnatastic screen, I remember seeing a clip from Lost and it was like holding a Mini Plasma. I have friends now that have Iphones and while the contrast is better than the Touch, it still isn't what I remember from what I saw originally, did some sort of elaborate bait and Switch happen ? Moreso for the Phone because we all know the Touch had an Inferior screen.

I'm to the Point now that I'll stick with my A2 for Movies (maybe an A3 in the Future) and use the Ipod for everything else. I'm just a contrast- black Level Whore I guess.

There are many outside factors that can fool you: the brightness of the screen (remember that many TV manufacturers turn down the darkness on their screens giving them the illusion of higher quality), the type of ambient light, the brightness of the ambient light, the angle you view the screen, etc.

Also don't forget that touchscreen LCD panels suffer in quality due to the touch feature being added to them. Whether it be a PDA or the iPod touch (though they use different technology), the screen decreases in quality. I have a 15" tablet PC and my desktop has a 15" LCD panel for its monitor. It too has a smaller contrast ratio than my desktop's monitor yet the tablet PC was made about 2 years ago while my desktop's monitor was made about 6 years ago. The Cowon doesn't have a touchscreen so they can increase the contrast ratio. I found a picture of the Cowon A2 on the internet that makes it look like it has a terrible contrast ratio. That just goes to show you that there are many things that influence this.

Contrast on the A2 is pretty nice a good movie to test with is Sin City with all it'z B&W and Colors contrating together, on the A2 the blacks are perfect, they are mushy grey on the Touch.

I don't have an A2 so I can't tell but I wouldn't say that it is perfect, at least not compared to my 20,000:1 Samsung LCD HDTV ;)

A Good Contrast ratio for a Portable that is.
