loading songs, major problem

i have a 4gb silver nano with about a 1000 capacity but as im loading my ipod its stops a little after 100 songs and then the warning window pops up and says the disk can not be read or written to........this is bizarre. any help would be much appricated

It sounds like you got a defective unit. You could try runing the built in SDRAM test. Reboot your nano. Press and hold the menu and center buttons until you see the Apple logo. Then press and hold the back and center buttons until the diagnostics menu appears. Select the memory menu option and then select the SDRAM Qucikscan option. If it pases this test you may want to try restoring your iPod.

The scroll wheel doesn't work in the diagnostic menu. Use the forward and back buttons to move up and down the menu. Press the center button to select a menu item and press the menu button to go back up on level in the menu.
