As posted in the $20 thread, I returned my Touch today to Circuit City to get the latest sale price (30 day return policy).
Turns out, they gave me the "new" January Touch with the extra apps. I guess they are getting these out in the stores in a hurry. Setting it up now, I want to see if the factory updated ones are having some of the same issues as the purchased firmware upgraded ones.

I'm curious as well. Haven't heard of any issues, and mine seems to be just fine so far.

1.1.3 seems to be slower than previous firmware, and from what I've experienced it seems to crash more playing music...However I cannot verify that as I've used my iPod Touch a heck of a lot more since updating to 1.1.3...

FYI, I don't know why you'd think the factory firmware 1.1.3 would be any different from updating as the updating does the exact same thing except there is nothing on your iPod to begin with.

Ya know, I hadn't really noticed it but now that you mention it the UI does seem to be a bit slower than it was before. I haven't had it crash while playing music since I got it (knock on wood) but I did have it freeze up on me playing video a couple of times prior to the 1.1.3 update.
On the plus side, though, the coverflow crash seems to have disappeared. I never made it through my entire collection once without crashing prior to this update, but now it hasn't crashed once. Not that I use the feature for anything practical, but it was cool to use as a demo for my friends and really embarrassing when it would crash back to the home screen right in the middle.

It is slower and seems (once again) rushed by the developers.

The fabled 'CoverFlow' bug (which I've never experienced) is certainly gone now - I overloaded my iPod and hammered CF and it didn't crash once, so that's a good thing.

Still got problems with lag on large webpages, but I haven't had the music stop or Safari crash since upgrading... But in saying that I did a clean restore instead of an update, so there may have been traces of evil crashing Lemmings left behind from 1.1.2.

I agree that things seem just a tad slower. It is nothing too slow or anything, it just seems like it takes an extra 1/2 second to second for certain things to load like the pictures application, the music application, or the video application.

I don't know if this was part of 1.1.2 (or earlier) but I now like that we can see the progress bar of a song being played. I don't know if it is new or if it is just something that I never noticed before. I thought that one couldn't see the play progress of a song before. But now there is time played, time remaining, and you see a bar in which you can drag a dot to fast forward or rewind. Again, I don't know if this is new or not but I remember people asking for this feature back when 1.1.1 was the iPod touch's firmware.

mmm might not bother with 1.1.3 as i have had no problems with 1.1.2 so i might give it a miss and wait and see if thay improve it on 1.1.4 if its ever going to come?

Seems I spoke too soon. My wife and I have both experienced several crashes in Safari since the update. Clearing the cache and rebooting seems to fix it for several hours, but still annoying.
@kornchild: This is not new. Always been able to see the progress, etc. by tapping the screen once while the track is playing.

I'd like to see if a clean restore and 1.1.3 gives crashing issues because that's what I did and it don't happen for me no more...

will a clean restore do away with the $20 update. Already paid dont want to pay again.

A clean restore does not remove your update, I tried it last night.

Your update might be lost if you were to downgrade to a previous firmware first.
