I've seen people mention it and I've seen it listed under services, but what is EDGE?

EDGE is AT&Ts wireless network, iPhones use EDGE to connect to the internet, email, etc.

EDGE is a digital mobile phone technology used for any packet switched application, such as an Internet connection. This is one possibility (besides WiFi) used on the iPhone to connect to the internet. EDGE is not available on the iPod Touch.

They need to give the ITouch Edge (sure we will have to pay a mthly data fee of 30 or 40 bucks) and a Camera...
Id gladly pay to have the ITouch online all the time.
I just have NO interest in AT&T's phone service. Work gives me a Verizon Blackberry

Well then buy an iPhone and tell them you are hard of hearing and that you want the data package--that you don't want/need a phone. If you can finagle that, it's about half the price of the lowest tier iPhone service....
Note: Touch + EDGE = iPhone

Edge wouldn't even be possible on the Touch anyway. For Edge to work, you would need more than just the wifi chipset.

Well in most cases Wifi is faster than EDGE.
