Hey everyone. This problem started after I got a itunes gift card. The downloads wouldn't work on my computer, so i re-logged in as an administrator (i'm running vista premium) Well, i start downloading and Bam, they're done, and the songs play fine on my computer. Also, video works fine. So i go to sync this with my ipod, and i started listening. Some songs, at random intervals the song will cut out. just dead. If i let it go, it will just advance to the enxt song automatically, but it still says there is time left. If i take the time bar and move it, then the song will continue. I've triend re-syncing it, deleting data, and even completely re registering the ipod in itunes as a different name and wiping it. None of this works. So, internet, help me. The songs work fine on my computer but not on the ipod. Also, im using a stock ipod Usb 2.0 connector. I've tried plugging it into different usb ports throughout the computer with no avail.
Help!

I had the same situation I tried everything from switching versions of iTunes, to restoring (SEVERAL times under different versions), changing USB ports (tried 2 in the back 1 in the front)...
Finally it was suggested to try a PCI Card, I did that and it is now day 5 with no skips or any problems. My suggestion is to get a PCI Card, but first I'd try firmware 1.1.3 and iTunes 7.6 to see if it resolved this issue at all...when I say this I mean do a complete wipe of your iPod and install 1.1.3 to see if it eliminates the issue.

what exactly is that? I've got a PCI slot for my graphics card but i have both of them filled up.

If you've only got 2 PCI Slots (Sure you're not thinking of PCI-Express?) then you need a new computer anyhow. If you do find you do have a free PCI slot, then get yourself a USB 2.0 card. You can get 5 port cards (4 external, one internal) for about $10 + S&H. I would recommend NewEgg.

I encounter this frequently enough myself. However, it never happens on purchased songs, rather only on 'ripped' CDs. What works for me is to delete the entire song from iTunes, and re-rip the CD...problem resolved.

I've the same problem with an iphone.
I've read lots of the posts on this subject and decided to do some experiments.
Picked an album (ripped from the original CD in apple lossless). Sync'd onto my iphone and 30g ipod.
No problems at all with playback on the ipod. Almost every other track on the iphone glitched.
As with other posts move pass the glitch and the track plays fine. Delete and sync the track and the glitch disappears or moves somewhere elese on the track.
How can it be the ripped track ? (seem lots of posts about low quality rips, VBR CBR etc etc)
How can it be the itunes or computer hardware ?
It certainly is a very annoying problem because it seems to be intermitent, Sorry I don't have any solutions

I think the issue does have a work-around as indicated above -- a PCI USB card. Seems like Apple needs to work on their USB drivers for the iPod Touch & iPhone, but in the meantime, that's one possible solution from the feedback that others have given here and elsewhere...

Understood, but with the same hardware (i.e. same usb ports) my ipod sync'd fine but my iphone wouldn't

Sorry, DerekVOF, next time I will read what I am being told !!!!!
Your view is the usb drivers for Itouch and iPhone are different from iPod and Apple needs to work on them. - understood

Yup - the iPod Touch is more "mini-computer" than the older iPods which were more "external hard drives." Since the iPod Touch has a fully OS, the drivers are different.
Here's the thread that discusses the USB PCI card and the results, for reference - http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=215968&page=3&highlight=pci+usb
