So i just spent the last few days kicking around at my brothers house, enjoying highspeed internet (no wi-fi here in BFE) and music videos. Well me and my bro have similar interests in music, but occasionally he will have something i haven't heard yet, and upon hearing it, very much like it. Well he too has itunes, but i upgraded it and connected my ipod touch to perhaps get some songs/music vids/etc. onto it from his computer.

Well i did, and i put a cd that he ripped onto his computer on my ipod touch, which is awesome. Only problem is, now that it's on my ipod, i cant get the cd onto my computer because of...what ever reason. I have jack a$$ 2.5 on my ipod as well, which my bro bought using his itunes account....same problem happens, it plays and works fine on my ipod, but i want to get this content onto my computer.

my question is, how would i be able to pull this content which i got from another computer onto my own computer?

also, i downloaded the 165mb 1.1.3 upgrade onto my bro's computer, installed it then went home.... i want to restore my ipod to 1.1.2 because i'm outraged by the $20 fee, but the problem is, i would need to download the 165mb file again to restore it for some reason.... i have dialup and i dont want to wait 5 days for a download to finish...how can i restore my ipod to 1.1.2 without the upgrade software?

oh and one more thing, the "other" content taking up space on my ipod jumped from 13mb to 51.9mb after upgrading...i expected a tiny increase, but this is larger than i expected...is it supposed to go up that much after 1.1.3 upgrade?

You don't need to restore your iPod touch back down to 1.1.2 as Apple charges you only if you want the "extra" software. Your iPod touch will run just fine with 1.1.3 firmware, it just won't have all those extra applications. So leave 1.1.3, it won't affect anything. The other content is perfectly normal. You need to download the 1.1.2 firmware if you felt that you absolutely needed to restore your iPod. The software should already be on your computer if you have restored your iPod touch in the past. If not then you need to download it, there is no way around this.

The iPod touch is a little different than other iPods. It runs a portable version of Mac OS X and it uses a different file system than normal Windows formatted iPods. You can't copy content off of an iPod using iTunes. You never have been able to do this with any iPod model and you never will be able to do it. Before, you had to use a 3rd party application (or just open the disk drive in My Computer) to copy any data off of an iPod. You cannot do this with the iPod touch though and I don't think there are any 3rd party applications that will do it either.

So your content is stuck on your iPod touch. Restoring your iPod touch means that you delete that content and you will never get it back. So stick with your 1.1.3 firmware as it isn't hurting anything (and Apple will never charge you unless you purchase those applications) and don't restore your iPod touch as you will lose that content.

well yea i understand that 1.1.3 isnt hurting anything, but i wanted to jailbreak it cuz i wont those apps for free. not because i believe in pirating or stealing, but because i believe the $20 charge is purely greed.

but that's another topic.

see, the problem with leaving the content on my ipod is the fact that jacka$$ 2.5 takes up 777.5mb of space....and on a 8gb ipod...you feel the loss of space.

but as far as 1.1.3 taking up 38.3 more megabytes than the previous 1.1.2... is it really supposed to take that much more? like i said...on such a small storage device, every little MB is felt haha.
