after you buy the upgrade it doesnt appear on your ipod...
heres the way to get it.

plug your ipod in and have itunes open.

1st off im not sure if this matters but...
UNcheck the box that says "manually manage music & videos"

then...

on the very top menu of itunes where it says.. file edit controls...

click on the "store" menu...

then click on the "authorize computer"

thats it,, ... then SYNC your ipod and then unplug your ipod from the computer.

Via apple themselves, this is new as of i believe this morning...

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307243

"If you are still unable to access or install the iPod touch January Software Upgrade and other troubleshooting does not resolve, it may be because iPod touch is in manual mode and was initially synced with another iTunes Library, try the following steps (Warning: These steps will remove content added to your iPod touch from another computer or purchased from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Make sure that content is backed up elsewhere before proceeding).

Deselect Manually manage music and video in the Summary tab in iTunes on the computer being used to install iPod touch January Software Upgrade. If you synced Photos from another iTunes Library, you may also need to sync photos from the current iTunes Library.
Click Sync. If there is not enough room to sync your entire iTunes Library, adjust the sync settings in the Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcast, and Photo tabs, as needed, then try again.
Confirm the iPod touch January Software Upgrade is installed.
Select Manually manage music and video in the Summary tab again."

Do that if you were still having trouble... it'll work like a charm.

Hope it helps!

I first got my touch for christmas, since then i've done a factory restore on my computer (running vista fyi)... anyhow itunes saw my computer as a different computer than the one first used when i got my touch. Because of that in order for itunes to fully sync with my touch and install the upgrade I had to auto sync it to itunes. Yes it jacked up my touch n now i have to reload and re-arrange all of my music. But it worked.

Apple... this update blos ballz. Do it better next time. :shake:
