seems legit. it's from ipodtouchmaster, who I believe's been quite helpful with the whole jailbreak process early on.

That is what I was thinking. I guess Apple just released this new product called the iTouch as I have never heard of it before. Man they are fast when it comes to these new products.

Why do you want to downgrade anyways? isn't 1.1.3 way better than 1.1.1? I have heard nothing but good things about 1.1.3. why downgrade?

People need to downgrade to 1.1.1 in order to jailbreak their iPods. That and the 1.1.3 firmware seems to run slower than the 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 firmwares. Another problem that seems to be going around is that the amount of "other" data on the iPod touch seems to take up more space and the amount of space keeps changing (anywhere from 13MB for one user all the way up to 102MB for me and it recently changed to 120MB for me as well).

Woow..that's weird about the OTHER keeps changing, I can understand the other is bigger than the 1.1.1 or 1.1.2, because the apps that are included with iTouch now, but it keeps changing can not be a good sign, I guess I should wait before upgrade.

oh could it be, because the OTHER keeps changing because you have cache stored? such as Safari, email, notes, and maybe even Google Map? I kinda figuer those cache has to be stored some where right?

For a downgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 I think there is an easier way (bring the iPod into DFU mode). You still need the 1.1.1 restore file which is mentioned in the video.

ATTENTION: You will loose you music and all installed applications on the iPod and have to synchronise afterwards with iTunes.

OK, here we go:

1) Connect you iPod to your PC, start iTunes and wait for the iPod to show up in iTunes.

2) On the iPod press and hold the "Home" key and the "On/Off" key simultaneously. When the screen comes up to slide for turning off, ignore that and keep holding both keys. After appr. 10 seconds the screen on the iPod goes black

3) After that release the "On/Off" key but keep holding the "Home Key"

4) After appr. another 10 seconds iTunes comes up with a message that an iPod in recovery mode is detectet with a yellow triangle.

5) Now release the "Home" key and hold "SHIFT" and press "Restore" in iTunes. Point to your 1.1.1 firmware file.

After this procedure you are back in 1.1.1 and can start a fresh Jailbreak.

The above procedure worked for me so I hope it will work for you too.

I do not have an iPod touch, but surely it can't be that easy? The only time I remember that working was on 1.1.1 to go to 1.0.2, and you still had to run Apptapp on your computer to get iTunes to finish the restore and reactivate the iPhone. The touch and iPhone can't be that different.

I can not say for an iPhone but it surely was that easy for my iPod Touch.

The Touch has always been that easy to slap any version of Apple's firmware onto the device.

This is because of the cache used for the Mail and Maps programs. Maps caches the skyhook wifi index to help locate you even when you are not able to connect to a network. Mail caches downloaded email.

Actually it wasn't. I restored the iPod and synced one picture file to it. I then restored the iPod again and synced that same picture to it. I didn't change any settings or browse the internet. I also don't have that $20 package so Mail is out of the question. The "other" data keeps changing in size from restore to restore.

Its always possible that iTunes is some how reading it wrong but the actual data size on the unit itself is the same.
