Alpine iDA-X001 problem

I have just installed an X001 into my car and am having a problem. Everything works fine except when I connect my ipod (4th gen) the head unit says usb device error and will not play any music.
Can anyone give me some advice on what to do?

The 4th gen is not compatible with the USB connection -- you will need a 'FullSpeed' cable. Note that the FullSpeed connection does not support album art on the X001's screen.
