I am about to start a car installation of my 5G iPod. I have a Nissan Altima and my tapedeck just went belly up so now is the time to go with a hardwired solution.

I already have the cabling picked out, my challenge at this point is in the mounting.
I want to cut a hole in the console right under the ashtray area and mount a docking connector there. One like this:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=2C70D7BE&fnode=home/shop_ipod/ipod_accessories&nplm=MB125G/A

The problem is, it will only be held in place by the connector itself. I live in the NE and the roads up here are terrible, like driving on cobblestone in some areas.
So I guess I am looking at some hybrid type holder, one that will secure it to the connector housing not just the connector itself.

Any thoughts\ideas?

I dunn understand what you are saying, however, on top of this forum, the sticky [i]Real Pictures of Installations[/] has similar and lots of ideas. Go at 'em!

Been through that forum, lots of great ideas.
I guess my question would be:

If I just have a connector like I described, will this be a bad idea for the types of roads I described. If I was doing mainly highway miles on smooth roads, it wouldnt concern me.

If the road is *that* bad, I'd recommend a gooseneck type hookup, which will provide shock absorption. Click my Flexdock sig for a sample. Depends how long the cobblestone stretch is I guess.

ps.: am more worried about the HD than the iPod becoming loose. If u pick dock... buy the dock that does NOT use an adapter. i.e. NOT Universal.
