Hi,

I'd like an iPhone, as they're not available in Belgium and probably won't be for a while, I'll have to import one. I have a friend going to NY in a couple of weeks and he's willing to pick one up for me. Although, he doesn't have a credit card himself. If I give my Mastercard with him, will he be able to buy one for me or will they only accept the payment if he provides a photo identification?

R.

Photo id required. I would not risk that for an iphone. Credit card fraud is no joke here in the states.

Why not give your buddy the cash, and get him to buy it on his CC. That's not fraud.

Like the original poster stated - his buddy does not have a credit card. Probably the best thing would be to find a bank that sells debit cards. These work just like credit cards and you can put whatever amount you would like on them. If you can't find one in Belgium then give your buddy enough cash to purchase one here.

if I'm not mistaken apple stores are still not accepting cash? And if I'm not mistaken its to combat this very thing?

you could buy a gift card online and give it to him if they take gift cards for the iPhone.

Technicall, a State outfit will not sell u one as soon as your cc foreign billing address pops up... but u may get lucky and have them ship it to your friend's hotel.
