Hello all! New to the forum. Have questions.

Here's the deal:

I bought an iPod for my boyfriend's birthday in November. We soon realized that he had no way to play it in his car. No aux output. No cassette player. We tried an FM transmitter and the quality was horrible. After a few trips to Best Buy, we landed on buying an aftermarket stereo so that he could hook it up directly.

We had two options: 1) buy an inexpensive stereo with an aux output, and 2) buy a more expensive stereo that was "iPod ready" and could be hooked up to the car directly. The salesman told us that the second option would give us better sound quality, so we went with that. They also told us that he'd be able to control it through his steering wheel, which turned out to be a lie, but that's beside the point. The main thing they failed to tell us is that the iPod would be disabled and that we could only play it through the radio controls. For some this might be nice, but the display and buttons are confusing and it would honestly be easier to just use the iPod. But we can't.

My question to you all: is there any way to bypass this feature and control the iPod directly, even though it's connected with a cord that goes into the back of the radio?

Some of the technicalities:

2005 Ford Focus Hatchback ZX3
Dual - 50W x 4 Apple® iPod™-Ready In-Dash CD Deck (Model: XDMA7715)

After searching around, I think the stereo system has an aux input in the back. Would it be possible to bring the stereo out, plug a cord into the aux input, and string it through the glove box just like the iPod cord already installed? If so, could someone please tell me how to do that? I have never done anything with a car stereo besides push buttons, LOL.

So sorry for the long message, I'm just really confused and need help. Someone please reply!

No, I don't think you will be able to control the iPod directly, once it is connected to the adapter. If your deck has an aux. input, use that. The sound quality should be just as good. Routing a cable behind the dash can be difficult. It's a very tight fit.
