Unfortunately, there is presently no way on the iPhone by default to send an SMS message to more than one contact at a time.

If you've hacked/jailbroken your iPhone, there are third-party tools available to do this that you can install, and there are also rumours that the next firmware update (probably due this month), will also add this capability.

In the meantime, you might also look at using a Web-to-SMS or email-to-SMS service to accomplish this.

I got this page/forum through Google while searching for a means for sending SMS to multiple recipients without the need to install new apps or jailbreak the iphone.

With the version 2 firmware it is possible to do so.
here is a link to do just that.

after i type in the name of the first contact, i will be prompted, and all i do is to type in thename of the second contact and so forth. tried and tested, several times.

To send a mass message, when you are putting in the contact to send to, you can keep pressing the blue (+) icon to add more recipients.

the only prob is when you send sms to multiple contacts, if they send back it will not appear in the same text. it will move to the text with just them in it. if you send to more than one contact, the group of texts only becomes an outbox not an inbox, too.

Would be tough to tell who sent the reply if all the replies came back in that box.

i agree but in the same place where it tells the time of the text it could also tell you the name of the person who texted you.

If you check the dates on the original two posts, you'll note that they are just over a year old. Prior to the iPhone OS v1.1.3 update it was not possible to send an SMS message to multiple contacts. v1.1.3 was released in mid-January 2008, just after this post was created, and it was the version that added this capability.

According to Apple's announcement yesterday, iPhone v3.0 will add the ability to forward individual SMS messages as well.
