I started properly using my phone today after Virgin finally released me onto O2 :) I was listening to music with the headphones at more than an adequate volume, and a call comes in. Pretty nifty I thought, until I clicked and answered using the little button. Why is the volume on calls so low? Is it possible to turn up the default volume when in calls to be of the same kind of level as when you're listening to music. If I turn up the volume by putting my hand in my pocket (which is rather difficult when you have a chubby lady practically sat on your lap on the train), I then get deafened by the sound of music shortly after the phone call ends.

There must be some kind of solution here. I can copy with no copy and paste, I can cope with no horizontal keyboard when rotating in SMS, I can even cope without flash in Safari, but for the one feature I got the phone for, *ahem* a phone, the headphones are useless and far too quiet when on calls.

Help me iLounge :)!

There are some settings that can be tweaked internally to adjust the different volume levels, although it requires that you have hacked/jailbroken your iPhone to get access to these configuration files.

There's an article over on TUAW, Boosting your iPhone Speaker Volume (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/12/05/boosting-your-iphone-speaker-volume/) that offers a basic overview of this. I believe there's also an installer.app tool out that will make some of these adjustments for you.

If you haven't jailbroken (and don't want to), then your only other option might be to reduce the volume of your music files through iTunes.

I haven't had this problems specifically myself... My phone call volume and music volume is pretty well-balanced, so I'm suspecting it may be a carrier-related problem, or something specific to your iPhone or iTunes library.

Thanks for the reply Jesse. I suppose if I lowered my music files's volumes through iTunes by about 25% it would be on par with the low volume of the call so it should equal itself out. Is it possible to lower the volume of my entire library by around 25% and have it not actually adjust the mp3s. So only when in iTunes and on my iPhone will the volume be lower. When I play in winamp for example the mp3s will be of normal volume :)?

Yes, if you use the "Volume Adjustment" slider in the track's Get Info dialog in iTunes, this should only affect the tracks when played in iTunes, as no information is written into the tags that's read by anything else AFAIK (I can't remember off-hand if it even writes anything into the tags.... I suspect it's actually just an iTunes database field).

You can even select multiple tracks at once, choose File, Get Info, and then adjust the selected tracks en masse.

Thanks Jesse. I did find the sound check option last night on my phone as well as iTunes. I might give that a play with later! :)
