View Full Version : Should Display Stay On During Music Play?

I just happened to notice this morning on the drive into work that my iPod Touch screen never turned off during the entire time I was listening to music ( approx. 20 minutes ). Approximately one minute into the music the screen dimmed significently, but once it dimmed it never went completely off like my iPod 5.5 does. I have auto-brightness off ( I tired it with this setting set to on... does the same thing ).

I've never noticed this before, and the only thing I've changed was to install a Best Skin Ever cover ( front and back ) yesterday. I have noticed that the screen sensitivety is no longer as sensitive to the touch as it was without the BSE, especially when using Safari. I'm wondering if the skin could be causing the screen not to turn off ( if in fact that is not normal).

Is this normal?

Thanks !

If you check in your settings/general you can see if the auto lock is set or not. it can be changed to various time-outs to switch the screen off, sounds like yours is set to never turn off, mine was set to 1 mintute as standard.....

Would the WiFi be causing the screen to stay lit? It could just be.

I have my auto lock set to two minutes and the WiFi was off. I changed the auto lock to 1 minute but it's still doing the same thing. I've been at work for about an hour and it continues to do the same thing.. ????

if you noticed it on the drive to work I guess you had a car dock connected to it?
because the screen only dims but doesnt go off as soon as something is plugged into the dock adapter port and you are listening to music. at first I thought its only when its charged but seems like its always when something is connected to it.

edit: oh, if it still does the same thing when you are at work thats weird. it only does that for me during music playback when I have my AC adapter connected ...

Good thought... I'm at work and it's also plugged into a dock. I just removed it from the dock, let it play and it DID turn off. Thank you for the feedback. Another thing I forgot to mention... when it is in the dock and in the "dim" mode, I can depress the button on the top of the Touch and the screen will shut off and the music continues to play.

Not sure if this is a question or not but this is normal behavior.

It automatically dims mine. Maybe call Apple?

BTW, I just got my Touch and have a question. When I turn it off, then on, do I always have to wait for the Apple logo? It takes forever. Is this normal? Why doesn't it just turn on straight to the home screen instead of waiting for the logo?

Mine does the same thing IF I completely power it off by depressing the switch located on the top left corner of the unit until the screen displays a message regarding sliding to power off. If I turn it off by quickly depressing the same button it comes back on immediately without the Apple icon.

^^^ Yea. But does it "Turn off" if you just press it? Aren't you suppose to hold it till it says slide to power off? Then when I turn it back on, it's annoying......very!

Ferrari360... I'm not exactly sure of the correct terms, but I have read several postings here on iLounge from other people that have discussed this issue. According to what I'm reading, just briefly depressing the switch located at the top of the unit is sufficient ( ??? power saver mode?? ) , rather than actually powering off the unit completely ( ???shut down ???) . I've only had my iPod Touch for a couple of weeks but I have never powered my off completely and have had no problems.... it's my understanding that this is the way the majority of users do it, although I could be wrong.

Hopefully someone that is more familiar with this issue can add more.

a quick press of the top button puts the touch in "stand by" and saves power, uses very little.......the other way mentioned shuts it completely off. personally i wouldnt actually do a total shut down unless i knwo i wasnt going to use it for at least 2-3 hours.

Ok...thanx guys. That's all I needed to know. So now, I will just press it once, instead of holding it. Cuz if I put it on power saving mode, and just leave it like that for a long time, it completely shuts off.

And one more question......about the wallpapers. I tried putting on wallpapers from my pictures. But how come I can't see it when I go back to the main menu? I can only see it when I turn it on and it says "Slide to Unlock". Is that where the wallpaper goes? If so, that sucks. I thought we can actually add wallpapers like the Zune or something.

Wallpaper is only for the sleep/wake screen.

If you want wallpaper behind your icons, you need to jailbreak and install Summerboard...
