Short answer - no.

Long answer - No, because Apple, Adobe and Sun need to work together to port the necessary software over to the iPod Touch/iPhone. But more than just porting, they need to make it usable in terms of performance as well as battery life so it needs to be highly optimized. Some have said that due to the slow processor speed it may not be possible, but I guess we'll find out... Keep your fingers crossed that it's introduced with the SDK in February.

unlikely since both java and flash can provide access to the clients (ipod touches) file system, and apple doesnt want that.

although I recently read a thread that there is a hidden "EnableJava" option in safari. if it is turned on webpages think the safari has java, but it doesnt actually have it. but maybe this points to java-support in the future?

Well on my installer i added a whole bunch of repos and one of the categories is java. Ive haven't downloaded any of them just because i don't know what there use for. But if someone can tell me what these java apps are for that would be great.

Someone has tried to do their own port of Java (since I believe the source is available) to the iPod Touch. Problem is that it's very rough and just for testing purposes right now from what they've said... Use at your own risk...
