ok so obviously it will not be able to make a call but will the rest of the services work i.e. ipod, safari? I was just wondering cause I may be canceling my service in the next few days or so. I tried searching for an answer but I couldn't find one, so sorry if this question has been answered already.

Yes you can still use the phone as an iPod it will just say no service in the upper left corner.

Are you sure? I wanted to purchase the iphone to use as an ipod in the meantime (until my current agreement is up with sprint) before signing up, and they said that none of the other capabilities would work unless the phone portion was activated. I was told this by my local at&t and Apple store.

Call Sprint and ask them if you can cancel without any penalty....I saw on an article that starting January all Sprint members can cancel without any penalty.....Call them and see is something about a law company and than transfer your number to ATT...

Yeah ATT tell you a lot of stuff.....=)

I don't think it will work. When you first get the iPhone it asks you to activate it via iTunes and will only let you make emergency calls. There is a number you can put in to let you access Safari and iPod but I can't remember what that is.

You can easily jailbreak the phone to bypass activation. There is plenty of stuff on the net that tells you how to do this.

If you have service with at&t and you either cancel or service gets canceled, u can still use the phone as an ipod. I wrote that last post from my phone when my service mysteriously got cancelled.
