I have always used the earphones that came with my iPod since I got them. They do not irritate my ears or cause a headache, and they are portable. However, I experience too much interference from noise, especially when in a car. I have never tried the earphones that have a rubber/silicone plug which seals the ear canal, but I am looking for some around-ear headsets to relax on long trips and at home.

I was at Best Buy and tried out the Bose Around-Ear Headphones. I was impressed with the sound quality and the comfort, so I decided to buy them online. However, I saw reviews online complaining about them having durability issues and being overpriced. One thing that I did realize at Best Buy was that the plastic used on the Bose were not of the best quality.

I am looking for a good pair of around-ear headsets that are durable, made out of high-quality materials, and offer good sound quality. I prefer them to be under $150.

I am new to buying fancy earphones and headsets, etc, so help would be much appreciated.

you answered your own question in the first line of the second paragraph.

the Bose aorund ears gave me serious trouble. the headband split 4 times.....but the thing is ....4 times. I went back for more, why? because I loved them. between pair 3 and 4 i replaced them with a pair of HD280's and after three months the head band had cracks and stress fracture on them. I was in no hurry to replace them with another pair of HD280's because I really couldn't stand them.

Anyway back to your dilemma, I'd say skip the Around ears, and get the Over Ears instead. I've had no build quality problems with them.

believe me, I've been on many a trial of audio equipment (I'm sure we all have) were the shop assistant is trying to tell you what you're hearing. The trick is, not to stammer over a buying decision. Sure, there's always going to be something better whatever you buy. Is there something better than my Sennheiser HD650's? Other seem to think so. Is there something better than my Stax headphones? Others seem to think so. The trick is if you like it, then hang the rest!

when it comes to being over priced, in the headphone world, there's a lot of Bose Bashing, and most Bose bashers, have either;

A) Never spent months, and hours and hours of testing them against other headphones, they might dedicate one afternoon or a few minutes of listening

B) Never even tried them period! they just Bose Bash because they think it makes them look hard!

I tried the Bose On-Ear ones and I don't like the way they fit on my ears.

I am just wondering if there are any other around-ear headphones that you recommend. I looked and Sennheiser seems like an acceptable option.

I have the Bose Triport over the ear phone. Great sound and comfort but no sound isolation so they are good for around the house. Shure Ec3 for noise isolation. really like them. Skull Candy Smokin buds for working out cause i am hard on them and they are not bad for the pirce.

the only headphones i've had that are similar in terms of comfort and design are the Denon AH-D1000's. They are THE most comfortable headphones i've ever had the pleasure of owning. However, don't expect the a lote of bass from the Denons, they are very bass shy in comparison. But they sound divine.

best of all they're down to $99 from amazon themselves. it doesn't get much better than that.......well yes it does, they could give them away!
