hi,
I noticed today that my touch seemed to have lost all playcounts/skipcounts/lastplayed things that changed since I last synced.
This really drove me crazy since I havn't been syncing it for like 2 weeks or so.

Now I'm guessing that this will be fixed with a firmware update, but: Does anyone know what causes this loss of data? Because I don't want it to happen again but if I don't know what causes it its hard to avoid it.

thanks

PS: this seems to behave really strange. I checked a song I listened to yesterday. It says in itunes that it was last played on november 26th which is of course due to the fact that the ipod touch lost the lastplayed field together with the new playcount.
but: I have a playlist where all songs are listed I havn't listened to in more than 2 weeks and the song does not appear on that playlist. neither on the ipod nor in itunes. whats up with that?

Two things I've found that cause loss of playcounts:

Restarting the unit.
Browsing the web while music is playing. If you browse too long, the music stops playing. I guess the touch runs out of memory? And any song you had played up to that point loses its play count.

Unfortunately, it's a known glitch... Let Apple know - http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

restarting the unit causes loss of playcounts? Lol ... Thats stupid. Lucky for me the music crashing while browsing happens really really rarely for me. Guess I just have to sync more often.
I already sent feedback about it, thanks.

another strange thing I just found out: If I have a smart playlist thats live updating, it does that pretty well. for example if a song should get kicked out when it was played and the playlist has 200 songs, after playing a song it has 199. when I play the playlist it shows "x of 199" so thats fun. the moment I switch to shuffle it shows that the playlist has more songs. I can't really find out where the number of songs come from. It's neither the songs that were in that playlist when I last synced nor is it the maximum number of songs in that playlist.
well, seems like apple has some things to do with their next firmware update. go, apple, go ^^

I'm waiting for apple to resolve some of the sync issues as well..at some point during the transfers of my songs something glitches and some songs will only play half through and go to the next song.

Kinda sad the product has been out for almost 4 months and pretty severe bugs still exist. I just did a restore for the 4th time and retransferred over all my songs.
