harryrehill,

Hi and welcome to iLounge. You may want to check our Beginner's Guide to Filling your iPod (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/the-beginners-guide-to-filling-your-ipod/) for more information. The same basic principles applies to the iPhone as to the iPod.... In short, you insert your CD, import it into iTunes, and then transfer the music to your iPhone from there. The guide above provides more detailed information.

anthony k,

For the Mac, I would recommend taking a look at Handbrake, as it's probably the most seamless method for transferring videos directly from DVD to the iPod/iPhone, and as an added bonus, it's completely free. Unlike the Windows version of Handbrake, the Mac version also includes the DVD extraction code, so no third-party tools are necessary to rip copy-protected DVDs (although I should note that the DMCA technically makes it illegal to rip copy-protected DVDs in the U.S., which is why you won't find too many commercial tools to provide this functionality).

You might want to take a look at our tutorial on iPod/iPhone Video Conversion for the Mac (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/the-complete-guide-to-ipod-video-conversion-mac/) for more information.
