Hi, I have been reading posts on this site for about 2 weeks now and didn't realize that headphones were such a hot topic. I have seen posts/questions very similar to the one I'm about to and I apologize in advance. Here is my dilemma.....

I have a Ipod nano and now a 8GB touch. I currently own Shure SE110's, Griffin earthumps, some cheap Sony and Philips and of course the never used white ones that come with the Ipod. I recently tried on the Bose over-the-ear headphones at the Apple store in the mall and really like them. I planned on buying some, but happened onto this site. After researching a bit it is pretty clear that the Bose are overpriced and that I have better options out there. Some people have mentioned the Audio Technica ATH-ES7 and the Senn HD25-1 and those may be options, but I am not sure if those would be good for use at the gym. Here is what I am looking for....

1) Something $150 or under
2) Over the ear type headphones (I sometimes where a cap)
3) Something that will stay on my head while I am at the gym (treadmill/stairstepper/weights but nothing too active)
4) Quality sound (keep in mind I am new to this so good quality to me is probably not at demanding as most of you)

My main concern I want them to stay on my head at the gym and not be ruined by a little sweat. The primary use wouldn't be at the gym but I just wanted to make it clear that they would be used there. I know in ear/earbuds/canals etc would be better but ever since trying on the Bose, I have been looking around for this type. I should note that I often have difficulty with the my current earphones staying in my left ear for some reason and I really don't care for the sport style/around the neck ones. Is my criteria unreasonable and should I just go with a cheap pair? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Stay well clear of the Bose headphones - poor sound and poor construction at a premium price.

Of the two headphones you mention (both of which I have had, or in the case of the HD25s still have) are far better sound than Bose, and better constructed. If you can find them at the $150 pricepoint then I would go for the Senns for a number of reasons. Firstly they sound better than the Audio Technicas (tighter bass, better highs - entry level audiophile standard in many ways), secondly they are very robust with every part on them being replaceable (ATs metal sides are good looking but easier to scratch) and thirdly they isolate sound far better than the ATs (you can't hear the world, and, maybe more importantly, the world can't hear you - achieved by a fairly tight but comfortable fit on your head). They are fairly lightweight, and I would imagine with their pleather earpads they are resistant to sweat. Because of their clamping fit, they would also stay on your head better than many headphones.

That being said I always use a cheaper pair at the gym - sound isn't so important there, so I use Senn PX100s, which at $30 I don't care so much about sweat either. Ear pads are cheap and easy to replace anyway. These still sound better than the Bose by the way...

Thanks Dimmer!!! Your previous posts are what actually got me to reconsider about buying the Bose. I think the Senn's will work for me. Now I just have to find a good price.. Thanks again

I second dimmer's recommendation of the Senn PX100. They are fantastic headphones.
