The Mini has on the go playlist ability. The firmware seems about the same, minus the album info while playing a song.

I asked this in another thread, but since this seems to be more focused, here goes:

Currently, the 3G iPods will report back to iTunes during sync on what songs have been played on the iPod while it was untethered. This makes certain kinds of smart playlists really useful, such as "songs I haven't heard in the past month." Whether the song is played on the iPod or on iTunes, it's noted and, in this case, struck from the playlist.

(I'm still working on a first-generation iPod, so this capability is one I've lusted for for more than a year)

Does this capability continue with the mini? I can't imagine it wouldn't, but thought I'd better ask before I lay down my money...

Yes, Playlists and Smart Playlists are in iTunes and work with the iPod Mini. Apple would have been very foolish to omit those features from the iPod Mini!
