Ipod explaination??

Hey guys, I'm new here so please bear with me. My wife bought me an ipod off ebay. The guy that sold it kept his 6000+ songs on it. I downloaded itunes and it converted my 500 songs to it. When I hooked my ipod to it, it asked me if I want to update? I said yes and it put my 500 songs on my ipod. I guess that means I just lost the 6000+ songs. Good thing is that the guy is going to re-download it. After reading the fourms I see there is software I can download to get the songs on my PC. Please tell me what the best is( free or not). All I want to do is download the songs on to my PC and put them on my wifes ipod and mine. Also do I have to go thru itunes to put songs on my ipod? I know this is alot of info, but I want to do this right this time. I already feel bad enough with 6000+ songs wasted!! Thanks

Under normal circumstances we could help you get your personal songs off of your iPod, but what you speak of is getting someone elses songs off a second hand iPod you purchased on ebay. In general iLounge will not support the idea of file sharing, or obtaining songs illegally.
