View Full Version : A Few questions before I make the plunge
I'm in need of a new phone and I feel like picking up an iPhone tomorrow.
I currently an att&t customer. Upon activating do I have to upgrade my current plan to include an iPhone data plan and how much does this cost per month? Will my contract stay as is or will it be extended an additional two yeas? Also, is there an activation charge?
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas! :)

1. You will likely have to change to an iPhone data plan
2. You can find the respective costs on AT&T's website
3. If you are not currently bound by a contract, you will be bound under a new 2yr contract when activating your phone
4. You self activate via iTunes.

Thanks for the help.
I'm sure that I can keep my current plan and just add an iPhone data plan, but I'm not sure how much more that would be per month.
Edit- I found the prices of the data plan. Thanks again.

+$20 for unlimited edge data.
Thanks. I must have made my edit right before your post.
My mother and I are on a shared plan and I believe the bill comes out to about 120-130 a month. I wonder if I would be able to upgrade to the basic iPhone plan and my mom could keep the existing plan so the price would be about the same instead of paying an additional 20 dollars per month.
So I looked into it a bit and I currently have a data plan which is an extra 10 dollars per month. If I purchase an iPhone data plan will it automatically replace my current data plan?
Thanks

You have to convert to one of the iPhone plans. The cheapest is $59 w/unlimited data, 450 min, 200 text messages. This is slightly more than I was paying with my Smartphone, and no company discounts apply to the iPhone plans. I'll end up paying only $10 more per month.
According to the apple site I can keep my existing plan and just add an iPhone data plan.

When I went through the iPhone activation process (very easy), it looked up my current plan, and then listed the 3 iPhone plans and asked which one I wanted to switch too. It also made sure I knew I would no longer be receiving any company discounts as well. The $20 unlimited data plan is correct. The other differences are the number of text messages in your package.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm a proud owner of an iPhone! :)
It seems that I have ran into a small problem. Whenever I am listening to a song and browsing the net at the same time, the song will stop playing half way. Any ideas as to what could be Wrong?
Thanks.

Which iPhone OS do you have. 1.1.1 update fixed that problem.
Its brand new. It has 1.1.2

That is strange, I thought that the music stopping was inherent of firmware 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 but apparently not. One thing they really need to fix is safari booting back to the home menu when the CPU is under heavy load. That is quite annoying.
Yes, that has happened to me too.
I noticed that the songs only stop half way when I'm in shuffle mode. Otherwise they play fine while I'm browsing the net.
