weird iPhone WIFI problem

So my brother in law just got an iphone for xmas, so im trying to help him get his wifi set up. they have a Netgear WGR614 ( i updated the firmware), but it still wont work. the main problem is that the iphone wont find the network. ssid broadcasting is enabled, as i can see (and use) it on my laptop. however, anything i try, it just wont connect. i was able to get it to see it and connect to it a couple times, but within 10 seconds it was disconnected again. its really weird. any suggestions?

So the iphone cant see the network? Or it does find it but cant connect? Is there a limit of devices able to connect set on the router? Try connecting other devices. Try reseting the iphone. Walk around the neighborhood and try connecting to neighbors networks, maybe this iphone is defective.

Try reseting to factory settings.
