Hello!

I just got an iPhone and am very excited about it. It came pre-installed with 1.1.2. I understand that there is no method yet to unlock it. But I would like to be able to start using it (without calling features). I believe this is called jailbreaking...

Which method should I use. There are so many out there and I am not sure which one will work with new iPhone 1.1.2. Will someone please help me? Thanks!

Do a google search for iDemocracy and iPhone, and you will find a collection of tools that allows you to do nearly everything with your phone. There is no way (to my knowledge) to go straight to a "jailbroken" phone from 1.1.2, but you can downgrade to 1.1.1 with the kit, jailbreak your phone (go to http://jailbreakme.com once you are at 1.1.1).

From there this is a program available through the installer that will allow you to jailbreak your phone through iDemocracy after installing the 1.1.2 upgrade.

I went to their website but there is a piece of text that reads:

However, it cannot unlock OTB 1.1.2 iPhones running bootloader 4.06 (yet). There will be a release 2.1 shortly after the release on the 16th which will add this functionality as soon as possible.

So this ain't going to work unfortunately... because I have a new iPhone and the new ones come with bootloader 4.06... unless there is something I don't know. They say 2.1 will be release close to the 16th... now is this 16th of December or of January? December 16th is long gone and still no 2.1 version so I am assuming they meant January 16th.

Thanks for your help though! Are there any solutions available to people with a new iPhone with 1.1.2?

I found this: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15272

Will this downgrading method work with a new iPhone? An iPhone with the new 4.06 bootloader???

I'm in the same boat as you. as far as i know there is no way to downgrade to 1.1.1 then jail break then upgrade back to 1.1.2 I did that had apptap on my phone and everything and it would not activate the phone so I had to go back to 1.1.2 and it deleted apptap so as far as i know there is now way as of yet to "jailbreak" or do any kind of modding to the phone :(

I do not really mind having an older version. I just want my iPhone to work. =P If there is way to downgrade to 1.1.1 and stay at that version I would go for it. But there are so many different methods and I am just not sure which one to use.
