Hey guys. Hehe I'm back again! I haven't posted anything here for I think a little over two years, maybe three.
Anyway, I still have my iPod Photo 20GB which I bought when the 40GB came out. Now, its still working perfectly, no problems with it whatsoever. No scratches either! I can still see my reflection on the back of it and I see no scratches, not even minor ones. :D I guess I take care of it a lot. Though, there are a little minor scratches on the screen not sure why, its not really a scratch but just like a smudge caused by the cover/protection thingy I have used.
So anyway, I was thinking about upgrading to an iTouch, would it be worth it? I don't use my iPod a lot these days, mainly I use my computer to listen to music in iTunes. I just got the Bose Companion 5 speakers too and it really changed my views in music. I love listening to my music now after getting the Companion 5 speakers, not sure why but they just make my music sound very good and perfect, just the way I want it to sound.
So ye, should I upgrade to an iTouch and maybe give my old iPod to a friend or something? Or do you guys think Apple will have a newer version of the iTouch soon that stores much more data. Right now, I have a total of at least 30GB of music, probably because I rip them at 256kbps ~ 320kbps VBR using iTunes, shoulda used LAME or something, but I don't think it makes a huge difference.
I'm afraid that the iTouch does not offer enough storage capacity to put all my music in there. I cant even fit all my music on my 20GB iPod Photo. Any Ideas? I would get the 160GB iPod if its the only option I have. But I really would like to get the iTouch :D
Oh also, how come under my name it says "BANNED"? Is it because I haven't posted here in like forever?

well, I don't think anyone here can answer you that question. you just really have to decide for yourself. If your old iPod is working and you don't need a new one, why buying one? If you really like the ipod touch and wanna get it, get it. it's really up to you. you have to decide if 16GB are enough for you. the ipod touch is a really nice device (especially when jailbroken you can do a lot of things with it) and if you are in places which offer wifi a lot you can enjoy internet on your ipod which works really well (the mobile safari is very advanced).
it's a really cool device and I don't regret my decision. I jailbroke my ipod the moment I got it and you can do lots and lots of cool stuff with it. It has some minor issues, but which ipod doesn't?
in the end, it's up to you. you have to know if the ipod touch does what you expect it to do and if it's worth your money.

Why do you need to have you entire collection with you? Learn to use the smart fill feature In iTunes and life will suddenly become wonderful. So yes I think this device is amazing and deserves to be owned by everyone. It Is just too cool not too.

To each their own. I moved from a Rockboxed 60Gb iPod to a more (IMO) crippled unRockboxed 160Gb because of storage issues.
I just think being able to have all my music on me, so I can listen to whatever I want whenever and wherever I am to be too cool not to.
So for my wants, the Touch and iPhone are just too limited.
YMMV
Make up your own mind.

All u said reason why is that YOU WANT ONE.
Tell u what, tons of poor kids in the world would be ecstatic just to have a socker ball to kick around. Perhaps a different perspective like this helps.

Wow, bobb-mini is insanely sarcastic :D But correct...
I mean I was thinking earlier today that when I was in college, I'd carry around my CD Walkman with 10 CDs and that'd be more than enough music to keep with me at any one time... Our grandparents got to use 78s that held ONE song per side...
Now we whine and b*tch because we can "only" keep 4,000-5,000 songs with us at one time... geez we're a bunch of fickle spoiled people... Oh well... to each his own...

Smart Fill? I am not sure if I know what that is. Hehe. I've used iTunes a lot of times but I don't know if there's such feature.
Also, I like the fact that the iTouch has Safari built in, so I can surf the web. Speaking of which, you need to have a wifi connection to be able to do so right? So what if the wifi is security enabled, will I need to have the WEP or WPA key in order to be able to use the internet on the iTouch? I have a wireless network in my house but in our dorm (where I will be 90% of the time), we don't have a wireless connection unless you're in the major areas/buildings like the Student Union Building or what not. The dorms are not allowed to have wireless connections on them not sure why, probably because so the people living out of campus can't steal internet from the school.

when he says smart fill he is actually referring to smart playlists...which really is only a benefit if you use iTunes as your music manager...i.e. you RATE songs.
You can create a smart playlist that contains only 4+ star rated songs..then have your iPod Touch sync to this playlist thus you have your best songs with you.

Long time lurker, first time poster...
I've been debating how to best upgrade for some time now. I currently own a 6gb mini. The battery isn't what it once was, my kid's nanos are sleeker and can do more and to top it all off, my 8th grade students laugh when they see it.
I, like you, really want the Touch. The practical side of the issue clearly dictates that the Classic is a better value when comparing price for storage. However, I REALLY want the Touch. So, I decided on a little experiment.
My library is fairly small when compared to many on here (from what I've been able to put together), but 20+ gigs is still more then the Touch can hold. I created some playlists and spent an evening sorting music and only picking the songs that I really want to hear. There where several that, while I like them, I usually don't listen to unless I have a specific reason (I'm a music teacher and I have a lot of stuff for grad work and the classes I teach to which I don't need continual access). I narrowed it all down to under 3gb! I was amazed!
So, my opinion, limited though my experience may be, is to sit down with your collection and sort through what you'd really listen to and what is just there because you collected it at some point. You might be surprised as well.
Cheers!
btw: I plan on purchasing a Touch after Christmas (gift cards are expected) :D

Thanks, out of over 8,000 songs I probably only listen to less than 500 of them. Some of them are outdated that I no longer listen to or some of them are just part of the CD where at times there's only one song on a CD that I really like.
So, I think I will do what you say, just create a playlist of songs I typically listen to depending on my mood and then just upload those songs to my iTouch. If I need to get a new song, I can just put it in that playlist and then it will be synced.
Thanks :D
Also, is the iTouch require those WEP or WPA keys to access the internet from a router? Or can you just use like the nearest router and access it without having to actually know the security keys.

It seems that you set that user title yourself - when we ban someone, they stay banned :D

Smart playlists can be a little more complex than paranoidxe would have you believe - you can have 4+ star playlists... that are in the country genre... by artists who's names start with T... and you haven't played in over a month... They're really quite powerful if you look into them...
As for the wireless, without a wireless security code, you can't access a Wi-Fi access point. Apple is making an iPod - not a hacking device :D You need the codes...

Well no by smart fill I believe there is a feature that will randomly put your music in until the space is full. So you get a bit of your entire collection randomly. Smart playlists are also a way to go.

Actually, Smart fill doesn't come up with the iPod Touch - I believe it's just for the shuffle (I've used it on my old gen1 iPod shuffle before)...

Well, it seems like after a little research I found that the iPod Touch does not support 64-Bit Vista. I have a 64-Bit Vista installed on the system I built. :( I guess I will have to wait then until Apple will have a support for it. Maybe they will have a 32GB or 64GB iPod Touch already by that time :D
