Hey all, first post woot.

Does anyone have any hard info on whether the SDK will be released in Feb 2008? Ive found it mentioned in lots of places but never a definitive statement from Apple.. Im wondering if it's another case of blogger chinese whispers.

Ill have my Touch just after xmas, so ill be looking into hacking the iTunes sync issues then. Dont think it'll be too hard looking at the changes they've made to the ITDB on the iPod. Ill post results in a couple months!

Search is your friend... From Apple - http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/third_party_apps.php

"Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers' hands in February."

Doesn't really matter though - the iPod Touch is wide open after the jailbreak and people are already making changes and applications left & right - from games to web servers...

Actually it does matter because without the SDK there is the very good possibility that a future update to the firmware will break all 3rd party applications and eliminate the ability to JB. My vote is for Apple to officially support the 3rd party development community.

Exactly. It'd be a hell of a lot nicer to be able to update firmware whenever needed without wiping out your jailbreaks and having to re-jailbreak the touch again which you wouldn't have to do if Apple just supported the apps in the first place. It was a pain in the ### updating the firmware to 1.1.2 and losing all customizations, bookmarks, etc that I had and starting from scratch again.

With future versions of the iPod touch having increased capacity and legal third party apps, I can see a lot of people getting the touch instead of an iPhone. Personally I was planning to get an iPhone (when it comes to Canada) until I got the touch but now i'm not so sure. I'm not sure the battery is sufficient to satisfy both my phone needs and my internet/multimedia needs.

Possible. Although Sony has been trying to stop people from hacking the PSP for quite a long time without success... Same with Microsoft and their Xbox... never underestimate the power of a determined group to get around whatever road blocks are put in their way...

I do agree, however, that Apple supporting third-party development would be great. Even better would be if they support open-source and free applications as well... I think most jailbreakers fear Apple will lock down the iPod Touch, make SDKs only available to select companies, and lock out all the individuals developing applications for the community for free...
