what is the easiest was to appropriately label ALOT of songs prior to putting them on my ipod? is there an easier way than in itunes to get the right song name, artist and maybe album? and artwork? i dont mind getting all the artwork manually from cdnow.com or amazon, but correctly labelling 1,000 plus songs will be tiresome. i have heard of mp3tag.....does that work good, and if so how does it work? any other programs you recommend?

I either use iTunes for small corrections or a program called Tag&Rename. You can select more than one song in iTunes by holding the control key while left-clicking on each song. You can also select an entire album in iTunes by left-clicking on the first song then hold the shift key and left-click on the last song. You can then simply right-click on any song and left-click on Get Info. iTunes can also look up album art for you, you just need to register for a iTunes Store account.

If you've got a Mac, there's a handy program called iEatBrainz (!) which evaluates the sounds of a song to match it to a music database and identify the info - http://sourceforge.net/projects/ieatbrainz/

I also remember there was a program that I had (darned if I can remember the name now) that would just go off song title or partial info and give you options to fill in the remaining info... Mac only too...

Actually, Mac, Windows & Ubuntu - but I use the Mac mainly for my music & videos... Writing this from Ubuntu...

Did you see MusicBrainz Tagger? It's a Windows version of iEatBrainz.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MusicBrainz_Tagger

I usually just label the songs once I rip them. So I don't have to worry about it in the future. I label them right away after I download or rip them off from my CD collection.

The musicbrainz programs just tag your songs with the appropriate information (e.g., artist, title, etc.). If you want album art, that's something different. Once you have tagged songs, then you can go into iTunes and select Get Album Art and it'll pull down what it can from the iTunes Store. Otherwise, you'll need to find a program that locates the artwork or manually add them yourself (use Google Image Search, find the album artwork, and paste it into the Get Info box in iTunes for the song).
