Im thinking of buying the Ipod Touch after Christmas. And was wondering what you needed to go on the internet. I have a wireless connection, so I think im ok with that. And does it cost money to use the internet on the ipod touch? I really need to know this question! And has the Ipod Touch have any problems? like bugs of the sort?
Thanks

Hi Phil - Welcome!
If you've got a wireless connection, you should be fine. I assume you mean in your home. All you'll need to do is type in whatever password you've setup for your home router and you'll have access to the Internet. If you're accessing from home, obviously, it's free. If you're out on the go, there are wireless hotspots (like Starbucks) that only let you online if you pay. But there are plenty of free wireless hotspots around too -- take a look at www.jiwire.com for a list of hotspots..
Problems? Of course - every new product has some. Are they bad? I don't think so. If you look around the form you'll see people asking questions about different things - I know the smart playlists are having some issues. The play count isn't counting correctly at times. The titles for long song names don't scroll. If you are listening to music and go to complex websites, the music will stop at times. I'm figuring Apple will put out a firmware release in the next few months to address some of these issues. I don't think there are any real "showstoppers" myself...
If you have a chance, go into an Apple Store and ask to play with one... and if you haven't already, go to the Apple site and check out the guided tour... They're really amazing devices... Oh, and if you really want to get all you can out of it, go look around for information on "jailbreaking" :D

I'm guessing you may not have read a lot about the iPod Touch? It's actually based on a reduced version of the Mac OS X - I mean, it's a full OS... So, yes, it's possible for Apple to simply put out a new firmware/OS update which could address some of the problems that currently out there...

they've already updated it with more in store most likely.

How can I update it? Does it cost money?

Apple puts out free updates at a regular basis -- they're currently at version 1.1.2. I'm not sure if they'll ever make paid update...

Apple will update the iPod software through iTunes & that will sync with your Touch.

It updates with iTunes. It will prompt you when an update is available.

No guarantee that every issue will be fixed (they may not considering scrolling titles an "issue" for example), but it is possible to address them. They've already updated the screen gamma to adjust the blacks, speed up performance, added a battery level icon that connects into iTunes, and the ability to add calendar events with updates...

It is for me. But you need to determine if it is for you. As you probably saw in that other thread going around right now (something like Absolute Waste of Money), obviously there are people who don't like it.
For me, though, I've got more than enough of my music & videos with me, battery life is fine for me, and I can access the Internet wireless where I need to. That's what matter to me and that's why it's worth it to me...
Need to do your own research - check out Apple's site and watch the guided tour, if you haven't already. Go to an Apple Store and try one out for a while. Check out the other iPods like the Classic and see if one of those might meet your needs better than the iPod Touch. Take a look and make sure it's what you want/need...
