Well, I finally got my new iPod, and I almost screamed when I saw it in the package. I hadn't held a new one until then, and it is so small and #### sexy! Anyway, this morning I ran over to my friends house and took my firewire card with me. I ran the restore on his XP machine and everything was going great. Then I brought the firewire card back home, installed it, and plugged in the iPod. Suddenly my computer completely froze, and when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, some application called msgsvr32 said Not Responding. This is making me REALLY frustrated. The iPod does charge and says "do not disconnect" but my computer just freezes. I've even tried running the the restore on my computer, but it still just freezes.

If anyone has any ideas please throw them out there. I am dying to finally get a chance to listen to music from the iPod!!!

Thanks!

Well, now I've finally gotten rid of that #### message, BUT, now the iPod doesn't even say "Do not Disconnect." I found a discussion at apple.com that says to uninstall MMJB (I had 8.0 to rip from CD's) and now I don't get that error at all! However, my iPod just says "charging." I did hit the menu and play/pause buttons to restart, and then hit the back and forward buttons to safely disconnect a couple of times, could that have completely wiped the iPod's windows formatting?

Also, I tried running the updater again just to see if the computer was even communicating with the iPod, and it is, when I took the iPod off the dock it said that it wasn't connected, and then when I put it back on the dock, suddenly an error came up and said "cannot mount iPod" and then the updater froze. I'm guessing that means that I need to run the updater on the XP machine again?

Thank you for any help!

Did you get the Win98 firewire patch installed? Might want to try it again. If you don't have it you can get it here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;242975).

Thanks that did solve a few problems. Now atleast when I plug in the iPod a little icon shows up in the tray allowing me to safely remove the hardware, unfortunately though, the iPod still doesn't say "do not disconnect" and it doesn't show up in My computer. Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks!

Well, it turned out that all I had to do after installing the patch was reinstall the firewire port and then everything worked! Now I have more music than I'll ever have time to listen to in my shirt pocket!

Gracias!
