Do NOT slide the mini into and out of these accessories, as it can potentially damage the rubber nodule that holds the mini into place, over time. Push the mini into place, and pull it straight out of the accessory. This is covered in the manual, but who reads those. Maybe this message can be made sticky.

I find that pushing my MiniPod in and out of the belt clip very difficult. Maybe I can stretch it out a bit to loosen it up. I feel like I am scratching the sides of the MiniPod when I do this. I would rather wear out the rubber pad on the clip than scratch my Minipod -- but then I guess the would be dangerous if the MiniPod slipped through and fell without that pad holding it in place.

It is a little tough to stick the mini into the belt clip, but don't worry so much. It's designed to go in that way, and you're not scratching or hurting your mini in any way doing that.
This minis are pretty tough, and quite resistant to scratches.

I was a little worried at first too, but after a number of days with my mini I can tell this won't be a problem. If you do see any marks on the mini after taking it out of the case, try simply wiping them off -- it happened to me and I realized it was just body oil on the mini's surface "congealing" in the spot it made contact with the case.

The thing is "anodized aluminum"- whatever that means. I actually freaked out the first time I put it in- a little bit of excess plastic had been basically sandpapered off, and it looked like my little Mini-Munch was scratched! But, I blew it off. That things tough, so don't worry about it.

From this website:
http://www.focuser.com/atm/anodize/anodize99.html
The following procedure is for anodizing aluminum parts. Anodizing will protect the aluminum parts by making the surface much harder than natural aluminum. Aluminum oxide is grown out of the surface during anodizing and then becomes aluminum hydrate that is extremely hard. The porous nature of the anodized layer allows the product to be dyed any color that is required. The method I describe is Type II anodizing (room temperature) and gives an anodized layer of .0002" to .001" (half which is grown into the surface and half out of the surface). Parts anodized will become slightly larger by about .0005" Type III (hard coat) anodizing is done at much colder temperatures and at higher current densities and can reach thick nesses of .002". Type III anodized surfaces can typically only be dyed black or dark green due to the denser pore size. I do not cover the procedure due to it not being in the "home brew" category due to the colder acid temp that would be required. The anodizing guide will show you how to perform the more popular Type II anodizing (Room Temp) using the home brew hanging wire method with materials found at typical hardware and auto parts stores, (bare bones method). Almost everything you need can be found locally except anodizing dyes and sealer which I sell small quantities on this site. {Snip}

I concur with the comments made about how tough it is. I got my iPod mini 3 days ago, so far it has been in my pocket at the gym (wearing soft nike break aways) and the screen has scratchs on it as well as the body. I really question how thick the aluminum is because mine hit a hard wood floor from a 1 foot drop and chipped. Now it reveals a white patch where it chipped. From what I cant tell, its not solid aluminum at all. If you look at the top and bottom, it appears that it is solid.
I dont know, Im not to thrilled with the purchase. I saw it on the shelf and thought wow, they actually have one! I dont know, its cool and I like it. I just think the big brother is a better purchase.

the mini just gives an idea and feel that its fragile... i just recieved mine and tried putting it into the belt clip... i used force and it snapped in fine... but when it was time to take it out i was a little wary, so i just slid it out... i would have been really disappointed if my new green case got a scratch on it...
its going to take a couple of weeks of use before i just start using it like nothing... i mean damn, the plastic covering the click wheel is still on this mofo :) i no im pathetic, but i do love my MINI is awesome... i rather care this thing in my pocket then my cell phone

Wait did you really mean "concur"? And anyway, yeah of course it's going to chip if you drop it! It's not meant to be dropped!

Haha, I should have read this months ago. For the first few days I was sliding it into the clip and out of it, cursing how it was so hard to do. :p

It is made out of aluminium, and then has an anodised aluminium layer on top for the colour. I doubt Apple made minis so that they could be dropped without damage but the scratching is strange.

lol, I was exactly the same way. I don't own a proper case right now, so I'm using a *clean, mind you* fuzzy sock all wrapped up and fasioned quite well, if I do say so myself.
But being the klutz that I am, I've dropped it thrice, but still haven't done much damage. On the bottom corner, it's kind of like, flattened a bit, wit the aluminum stuff kind of wrinkled up a tiny bit (imagine dropping a sick of semi-soft butter... kind of like that) and the little apple logo on the back looks scratched, but overall, it's fine.
I've had mine for ... about 2 months now, and I still treat it like a baby. My little Limealicious babe!
Oh! And I wooould still have my little click whell tape-thing on, except like, 3 days after I got it, I showed my neighbor and she's like, Oh cool! What's this? and peels it off! I'm like, Nooo! I put it back on, but it didn't stick too well and got all linty on the back. Now I'm sad...

You can even clip your iPod mini to a lanyard around your neck for the ultimate fashion statement.........

Because I use my arm band quite a lot for long distance runs it could do with a clean to get rid of the salt residue. Has anyone ever washed their armband? Any tips?

I don't own the apple armband but I do have an armband and I've had other armbands in the past.
I wash mine with cold water and very little handsoap. VERY VERY little. I then pat it dry and hang it to airdry completely.
I don't wash it every time I use it. In fact once every couple of weeks is more like it.
FWIW I've been washing the chest-band on my Polar HRM that way, daily and it's still looking as good as new about 1.5 years later.
