Ok im sorry for the cap's there , but i want people to see this because Personaly i am getting a little tired of people asking about the Do not disconnect so . here is some screen's and discription on Doing it i hope this will be tward the top at all time's so it can be seen ....

Ok, here i go , this is an explination of how to disconnect the ipod , Because some of you dont get the Dont dissconnect or , your not shure on how to , fallow the link's (there screenshot's) and this discription youll be good to go,

Ok first let me say here is I-tune's (sorry if the pic is a tiny big)

http://home.indy.net/~jwd3ksp/images/Disconnect%20ipod/tune1.png

Ok so now you see my ipod is connected there (the name is Ghost shadow) ok now down on the bottom left hand corner, You see those icon's (some of you dont know what they are so i shal explain)

+ create play list
->shuffle
->Repeat
<-
[^] show /hide artwork (album)

ok now on the right hand corner on the bottom is

| | | equalizer

* visiual effect's
[^] eject disk

now those are when the ipod isent selected or not connected now when it is there about the same exept there is the little ipod simbol
that symbol is the Ipod display option's and then the little
[^]with the ipod symbol is eject ipod look at this picture (Example) (http://home.indy.net/~jwd3ksp/images/Disconnect%20ipod/tune%202.png)

Ok got that, ? see How it show's "eject Ipod" you should click it ,
that will Dismount the ipod if you dont get that then try this ,

(outside of Itune's) ok , you know when you have a Device connected in Xp and you see the little <- green arrow ontop of a graish looking block (EXAMPLE) (http://home.indy.net/~jwd3ksp/images/Disconnect%20ipod/remove%201.png)

youll see it, Well Rite Click that and you Get what is Displayed on that Picture , ok now click that (the safely remove hardware/device)
Ok when you click it this will pop up (EXAMPLE) (http://home.indy.net/~jwd3ksp/images/Disconnect%20ipod/remove2.png)

Ok now it might be named a little different for you but the general guid like you know what to look for , ok so now you want to go ahead and select that,

On mine as you can see it say's ( Apple Computer_Inc. Ipod IEEE1394 SbP2 Device , select it then Click Stop , This will pop up when you Do
(EXAMPLE) (http://home.indy.net/~jwd3ksp/images/Disconnect%20ipod/remove3.png)

Ok now that little Gui that poped up has your ipod there also See it say's Apple Computer_Inc. Ipod IEEE1394 SbP2 Device make shure you select that again and this time Click OK , and it might pause for a second but then This will pop up at the bottom (EXAMPLE) (http://home.indy.net/~jwd3ksp/images/Disconnect%20ipod/remove%20done.png)

See it says your device can safly be removed so now look at your ipod and see if the check mark is on it that say's ok to disconnect (it should) So that's it I HOPE this answer's the Question Or help's you Guy's out .....

Sorry if it was long but yes it helped though so thank's for reading ....

you've outlined the long way to do it.

There are 2 easier (one mouse click) methods:

1) right click the iPod in iTunes and select "Eject"
2) Left-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon and select the iPod from the little menu that comes up. Much quicker.

OK when I attempt to disconnect using both methonds it still will not disconnect. When I try to disconnect using itunes it says

"The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."

I made sure itunes was the only program running and still the same message. Don't know if this is the problem or not but I recently switched from 98SE to XP. I completely erased my HD and loaded an OEM XP and this is the first time I have tried to use my iPod since the switch. iTunes does recongizine my iPod though. Thanks in advance for the help as I'm afraid to disconnect my iPod until I get this figured out.
