Hey everyone, I'm new here and have a desperate Santa Claus question for you.

My son (senior in high school) has asked for a nice iPod speaker set with alarm clock to go with his 30-gig iPod Video. This will be his "big" Santa gift and he'll take this to college with him next year. I had decided that the Xtreme Mac Luna looked like a good bet, and I ordered it from the manufacturer a week ago, following the suggestions on this forum about doing that to make sure I got the latest firmware model.

Today I got an e-mail from the mfr saying so sorry, this item is PERMANENTLY out of stock. I see the Luna available a few places online, but at a much lower price so I fear those units will have the older firmware, and the bigger question is, PERMANENTLY OUT OF STOCK? What's the deal? Anyone have any clue what's going on here?

I have found another possible contender -- the Macally Tunepro -- which looks beautiful (this particular son will definitely be all about the looks of the thing as well as its sound and functions). I can't find any consumer reviews of this -- anyone have thoughts?

Lastly, I see that the iHomes are pretty well-received, but I find the models confusing. Which would you recommend?

Of course, any other suggestions would be great, too, if you like other brands. I'm just a clueless parent here!!!

Thanks so much, and Ho Ho Ho!!!!

I am also in a similar situation. I am giving my fiance an ipod nano for Christmas and was wanting to give her an alarm clock/speaker system along with it. I originally was interested in the Logitech Pure-Fi Dream system which was due out last month. However, I called Logitech yesterday and was told that the product has pretty much been canceled.

My second option was the Xtrememac Luna. It seems that it is being replaced by the Xtrememac Luna X2 (as seen in this thread, http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=212496). I guess they have stopped manufacturing the old model. Maybe this is for the best as it seems the old model wasn't entirely compatible with the newer ipods.

As of right now, I guess my plan is to wrap up a picture of the new Xtrememac Luna X2 and tell her that she will get it as soon as it's released in January. It is rather disappointing, but I do not think I have any other option at this point, beside settling for a lesser unit.

I didn't get an IH9 for Christmas, but found them at the local Costco last night for $89. Nice clock radio/iPod, with lots of useful features and very good sound. It can pick up a time signal from the electric power line (though you have to specify the time zone you're in). It also has battery backup in case of a power failure. You can also create an "iHome" playlist and the song(s) there will always be played (randomly) when your alarm goes off.

Only minus: the wall transformer is heavy (maybe a pound). I'm in an old apartment building with worn outlets, and gravity pulls the transformer out of the wall, but that's not really iHome's fault. I'll get a small power pod and connect the transformer through that.
